Title: The VBB
Post by: magatsu1 on January 24, 2004, 05:07:19 pm
Just noticed in the "last year on HLP" Sandwich had some of the VBB topics archived. Tried the link, which didn't work 'course, but I was wondering if anyone else had any archives or links or whatever to some of the original VBB threads ?

I have a bunch of them saved on my HD for future reference. Mostly stuff from the FRED forum. Don't know where to find any of the good stuff online though.

Actually web.archive.org allows you to see about 50% of the topics in the 10 days before each of the archive dates on ALL the VBB forums. I got the same idea to look at VBB from this topic...

Hahah, there are some pretty good threads there if you can look back far enough.

only problem with most of those archives, is that they don't go right up to the ending... I have yet to find one that does... though ZB remarked that he would have to start hardcopying all the threads...

Multi IP-banned on the VBB? I must have missed some good times...

Not really.

All I did was argue with the WS peeps and get a new nick and IP banned every time the little gits told Todd I'd returned.

Though I thought the '**** you, kode' thing was pretty funny.

I racked up some 2600-odd posts there before the place went down.

Ah, I remember all that chaos. :D The squadwar forum made particularly fun reading when it was still there, with all the mudslinging going on and even an occasional spamming spree (e.g. RJM's Malboeuf rant). Good stuff.

Hahah, the folks over in the RF PS2 forum were pretty funny to watch as well. And no, I'm not going to start to get into numbers too... that wouldn't be fair. ;)

yup, I had the smack thrown at me on a consistent basis for committing horrid crimes, such as responding to criticism, offering up suggestions, participating, etc.  Habits left behind when I signed up here.

Oddly enough, I was never banned or even warned.

Why? I guess if you flame selectively, do so with some modicum of wit, and are otherwise well-behaved, you can get away with murder. :thepimp:

...I only spent all of 3 months there combined time, and I managed to get myself banned 4 times.
Once for being in a thread where people mentioned warez, and twice for having 'indecent names'

Please tell us what names you used that we shouldn't, just as a precaution you understand ( ;7 )

Wow.  I completely forgot this place existed.  Is it a bad sign that I still remember the first few posts in "Tell a Story..."?

I vaguely remember that when Bosch got up, "the hanging light above him fell and broke" or something like that.

Yes. :p

I think someone should write a dramatized version of the Freespace community. We've gone thru so much more than your average gamer community :)

Words to live by. I might add that the modicum of wit is exactly what I think of when the name "Zylonbane" flashes before my mind, and it was probably the same for the V mods. No wonder you never got banned.

A fine suggestion, UT. I think it should be illustrated... :D
