Love the pod, but the base needs to not looks so frail. Good job.

Mmm, I agree there, but even with this mount it could look good setup as a wingtip module. Dunno really, where did you have in mind to put it? :)

It looks like a Cyclops turret for the Raynor Mk2

Nice! This is the sort of work we need if we're ever going to get serious about upgrading the ships in FS - it's the small details that count... well, the small details and the smooth curves :)

Anyway, what's the polycount?

Nowhere, really. Just wanting to make a good missile turret for folks to use.

I'll take that as a compliment. :D

As the poly count stands, 298. I plan to optimize it, refine it, so probably around 350-400 when I'm done.

With only what, two per ship, can't hurt that much.

Nice, not shure about the base, maybe you could have the base joined to it on both sides or something, maybe a back flash shield?

sorry am not shure just looks to flimsy, the rockets would nock it of the ship. love the pod mind and the whole idea is very good.

its the sort of stuff were going to need if we want new ships to be more interesting than just flat round turents or blobs on the hull.

Cool work, bigger version would be good on one of the new destroyers as a torpedo launcher or somthing.

How about this?

Poly count is 406, fully optimized.

Thanks. I actually mean for it to be a destroyer turret, launching large missiles (not the standard fighter missiles) that have a long range and many uses (anti-fighter, anti-bomber, anti-cruiser).

Multipurpose weapon, much like patriot missiles.

Hrm... something like this on the way next. I think I might finish the first one although; keep it as a light turret.

I think I like the look of two supports better. Besides, I can extend missile "capacity".

Any ideas on responsible poly limits?

For a turret?  'bout 100-150 with HTL, depending on mhow many there are.  Dump the hexagonal indent (missile tubes) - you'll save loads of polys that way, and there's no difference between modelling them and using a texture.  Also maybe save some at the 'joint'.

definately liking the look of the two supports, looks more solid asif it could launch some really HUGE missiles.

A propper cap ship turret / cap ship killing turret there!

Nice work!!!

Does freespace allow for lods on Turrets?

Iwar2 does, so when you're close to a quadpack missile laucher, you can see the details pretty clearly. When you backoff, the textures take over from the polys. It looks great.

The [V] ships have LODs for turrets. I added them on my original Styx but I've got no idea if it worked. I should try painting the LOD1 textures bright pink or something to test them :D
