Title: truespace woes(desperately in need of help)
Post by: freespacegundam on January 27, 2004, 11:51:04 pm
Okay, here's the thing.  I downloaded Truespace 3.2 off of download.com, got the serial number and installed it.  But everytime I open it up it gives me the message 'truespace has encountered a problem and needs to close'.  Now, if this is a legal download, wtf is up with this program?

Oh, Pentium 4,

Windows XP

I have direct X I thought that might be the problem but its installed on other programs.  Is there anything else I'm missing?

Hmmm. I once got Truespace into a cycle of crashes by setting it to load the last scene I was working on automatically. This worked well until the the last scene got corrupted. TS would start load in the corrupted scene and then crash again.

When I moved the corrupt scene everything went back to normal.

I didn't even get to do anything I just opened it, it said it had an error, and then closed. I wish I knew what was wrong.

I think Truespace automatically tries to load a scene in the first time it's started. Try moving all the textures and models folders into a sub folder and see if that works. It's a long shot but it will only take a minute to try.

If it's a a scene problem, just move the scene to a different directory.

Okay, I tried to move the scenes to another folder, as well as the textures.  It still crashes whenever I load it.  Is this a bad version or does my comp just suck?

Think its still on there. Its got limited export abilities but you can get around this by getting the q3 gamepack and exporting as md3, then using 3dexploation to convert.

I dare there are some problems if you want to make models for fs2 with gmax, many encountered big problems in the past.
Btw there are many free/cheap programs... there are free versions of maya and xsi, blender is free, rhino is cheap...

I've never heard it was cheap. It seems to cost around $200 which is not cheap in my book. Admittedly my book is the Ebenezer Scrooge book of cheapness for misers :D
