Title: ARGH! My Registry!
Post by: an0n on January 29, 2004, 04:14:14 am
My registry exploded.

It's reverted by about 3 years and the stuff that hasn't been time-warped is all corrupted and generally wrong. Which means nothing works. I'm stuck on 16-colour 640x480, it took me an hour to get the mouse working, the modem is 'iffy' at best and pretty much none of my goddamn programs work (including rundll [sporadically] which is a real *****).

Worse still, even after re-installing a ton of stuff, everything is still boned.

And the worstest thing is, I gots no ideas what caused it.

Any ideas?

format c:

reinstall windows, or switch to linux. if you've got to save stuff, download a knoppix disk, burn to cd, read the drive, burn valueables to CD and then reinstall windows

there must be a registry backup somewhere, it is created daily by the OS...
Try looking into MS or MSDN web site for more info...

I took the semi-easy way out.

I opened the device manager and deleted just about everything. Restarted Windows and it re-did all the drivers.

Now all that doesn't work is the sound.

I'm probably gonna back-up some stuff later this week and reset it from the 'brand new' backup I made. It's really starting to screw up with all the driver conflicts and ad-ware and virii on it.

btw, repairing my Nodewar account is absolutely nessecary to get windows running again. it pulls a dll out of the DB of often visited forums, i think it might have saved something in my profile, and when you edited it, it must have started damaging things.

I'll redo your NW account when you do what I told you to do.

She won't hurt you that much.

****ing cock-smoking ass-luvin dickheads!

I do a nice, simple search on Google for "crystal WDM audio codec drivers" and it brings me up about 10k links.

I say links because they all go to 3 basic sites: Looksee [which is a ****ty search-engine], Pornography [which is all pay] or Driver-Guide [which forces you to pay for a subscription before giving you the files].

A cookie to anyone who stops me taking out my frustrations on the world and finds me the drivers.

Sound is for pussies. Hell, it was only last year I got actual speakers, that only 'cos they were free, and they don't even work every other second!

Hunt zombies by sight and instinct, the way God intended us to, dammit.

Aww hell, I'll troubleshoot just for the memories. Apparently, according to an unconfirmed source that quite possibly had no clue what he was talking about, the codec your looking for would come from these ****ers (http://www.zydec.com/), but I'll be damned if I can get anything out of their page except bull****.
