Title: Reformatting.....
Post by: an0n on January 29, 2004, 07:56:47 am
I know for a goddamn fact that I'll forget something, so list off whatever you think I might have that I'd want to back-up before I wipe the hard-drive and start anew.

i wouldn't say there'd be anything that you'd HAVE to keep.  i always save my ICQ lists, all the install files for files i've downloaded (all ZIP, EXE, etc. files i've downloaded i keep, for when i format ;) :D )  , then there's music, video, and "My Documents".

Only things I really wanna keep are the 'files I've made' kinda things.

Photoshop pics, models, text-files and such.

Music and programs can be replaced relatively easily.

And I've only got about 1.5Gb space on the D drive to back-up to.

IE favorites
"My Documents"
downloaded programs and stuff
anything that is basically not replaceable.

i've always backed up the music that's on my computer... takes about 9 or 10 CDs, but it's all worth it :)

but yeah.  i'd say documents and some important files you've downloaded.  if you use an email program, back up those files

[color=66ff00]I set my disk up with 2 partitions, the primary is around 2 to 3GB and holds the OS, installed drivers and anything else system critical, the secondrary partition uses the rest of the disk; around 38GB.
Everything else goes there including backups of the drivers and all installed programs. If the second worst happens (first being total disk failure) I can format the OS partiton, reinstall and then use the 'program files' directory on the secondary partition as a guide to what needs reinstalling.

Saved me a few times in the past.

Anyhow, good luck an0n, hope you get it back in action.

It's funny that you think I've even started on Delta Blues. I haven't seen my FS2 disks in like 2 months.

And I'm backing-up NW as soon as I'm done with the reformat.

Also, I've discovered that all my music, movies and gay-porn are already stored on the D-drive so I don't need to worry about them.
