Hey, Bob, just curiose...could you put your specular highlighting code into HW? :)
I know it's barely FS-related, but it would make that game super-cool looking :D
-
1) HW isn't open source, so you dont have the chance to edit the code
2) The HW code is probably 99% different of FS2 code
3) getting used to HW code would take ages
4) whole spec mapping code would have to be rewritten
-
5) We want bob doing cool stuff for FSO :D
-
RE 1) Wasn't the HW (1) code released a few months before homeworld 2?
-
Kind of, I've never actually managed to get a copy downloaded, it always messes up.
-
Yes, it was released, that's why I asked :)
Besides, isn't it sort of a copy/paste thing?

Naturally. That's why the SCP now has Homeworld flocking AI, and complete OpenGL support. Its just a copy/paste thing. ;)

if there was someone else working on the HW source I could probly explain the basics of how they could do it, but there is no way I'd have any idea how to do it myself
-
Hey, I'm no programmer :D
Anyway, just an feature I would've loved to have in HW :)

EDIT: Speaking of which, why not set up a tech trade thing? Where we teach the HWers how to do some fancy FS2 SCP stuff, and they show us some new AI and stuff like that?
(With Relic's approval, of course :D)

I think the architectural differences would pretty much prohibit it...the only you could really do would be to explain the theory - it'd be kind of like exactly translating an english phrase to german via russian.
-
no, it would be more like translateing english into japaneese via one of those african dialects wich consists mostl of grunts and clicks
