TAIPEI (Jan 29) - The decomposing remains of a 66-ton sperm whale exploded on a busy Taiwan street, showering nearby cars and shops with blood and organs and stopping traffic for hours, local newspapers said.
The 56-foot dead whale had been on a truck headed for an autopsy at a university earlier this week, when gases from internal decay caused its entrails to explode in the southern city of Tainan.
The whale had died after it was beached on the southwestern coast of the island.

Anyone else hear this?
-
Saw it on Fark this morning, can't say it isn't funny. For instance, why were they hauling it through town?
-
LOL
Ahhhhhhh that is some good **** there.
-
Ugh, can you imagine coming out of a store or your job and seeing your car covered in blood? Or even being there when it explodes and being bathed in it?
-
Hmm. Funnier, less funny or as funny as blowing up the whale with TNT? Cos that was pretty funny. Specially when people go nuts over animal cruelty
-
Nah. 'twas dead animal cruelty.
-
Revenge for years of commercial whaling. The whales have started suicide bombing. Unfortunately this one got a little bit lost and swam left instead of right and made it to Taiwan by mistake.

Now that's comedy, Kara

42? ;)
Anyhow, it's pretty funny since the whale was already dead, if it was killed for the purpose of experiments etc. then it'd be another matter (yes, I'm against animal cruelty).

The whole cetacean order worries me. but it's dolphins that really scare me. I never tust any animal that smiles all the time. :)
Besides I think this might be worryingly close to what is going on down there.

what was funny in that video were all those idiots and their ruined cars :p

*calls adams references*

Yes, the poor creature was dead, they were taking to a lab for an autopsy to see what killed it.
Besides the obvious "I weigh 35 tons and without any water to support my bulk I collapse in on myself."
-
What's the whale look like on the side we can't see?
-
as we can't see, we can't know :doubt:

I think it's a cultural thing. I have a Chinese friend who puts meat using his utensils into my plate whenever I visit his house. It's politeness.
But about parading the whale, the Chinese seems to be attracted to unusual events, so they do stuff like this. For example, I was studying in China in my early 20s (about 18 years ago) and the kids paraded me through the street because... you know...

I suppose it was the shortest way for that university? :doubt:
