Hey guys.. been a while. :D
I've knocked this up over the past hour. Its very rudimentary and basic. Other than general greebling and detailing, how might this low-poly baby be improved? Any comments, etc.?

Thanks!

Edit: I know this isn't very "Freespacey"... I've had a long, long running fantasy of making my own basic TC for Freespace. Terran warships are pretty blocky and militaristic. I doubt the idea will ever come to full fruitation, but I do enjoy messing around sometimes to create it. :)
-
what's wrong with blovky and militaristic?
that's exactly what i liked about freespace, warships should look like warships, not polished showroom-like frisbees with 2 engines strapped on.
well, sort offtopci that was :p
the model looks nice enough, perhaps a bit plain though, we'll see what becomes of it, do your best :)
-
Nothing wrong with blocky and militaristic! Its how I like my terran warships, too. :D
Yeah, the blandness of it should be combatted by added detail to large flat surfaces, as well as adding turrets, torpedo bays, and a radar dish. :)
-
I don't mind blocky, but those big engine things in the block are a little too blocky. Angle some of the edges or something.
-
Right now, it's waaaaaay too low poly for my liking.
-
I might size the engines down a little bit. I'll definitely up the poly count and add all sorts of things - these pictures were to give you an idea of the shape!
-
its remind me a Deinos:doubt: realy dont know why but for me looks like deinos:doubt:
And realy need more polys.
-
yeah, put up some detail on it, most of us will survive a bit more poly's ;)
erm, by the looks of it, i would go for a hard-hitting infiltration cruiser.
a bit like the rakshasha, perhaps a covert-ops cruiser?
-
reminds me of the EA corvette from Inferno, EACv Darkness I think.
-
I've been toying with the design a bit more. It struck me that the bow was overpowering to the middle and aft. Added a bit more detail, discovered the joys of bevelling.

Most flat surfaces you now see should have either a gun turret, torpedo bay (with funky red lighting), or radar dish atop now. Any more comments? (I'm not aiming for uber high-poly or anything here, just something aesthetic and functional)(
Btw - any tutorials on the topic of glowmaps, shinemaps, glowpoints etc. would be cool.
Btw this cruiser is still all in seperate pieces, it is unglued and not yet triangulated. Should I triangulate and texture each 'piece' seperately before the grand object union?

Although this is for my own little "TC" universe(as if it that will ever be realised), it will have a role similar to the Leviathan. It will be tough and reasonably well armed, used largely for defencive purposes. :D

Too BIG engine pods make them litle longer:) and still is to boxy.

then ditch the "beams" connecting the pieces, it makes it look more fragile.

The thing that struck me was, right off the bat, with the first box-polygon model, was how right it looked. That's an excellent thing, IMHO - if your basic design is sound, then unless you screw it up horribly later (and I mean REALLY horribly, the kind where you need ta commitee to do) than you're pretty much good to go. Nice job.
