Trying to get into the "high poly groove" here with the SCP stuff, and finally had time to model, and here's the result:

Started out as a cruiser, and needs more detail on the engine pods, the underside, and the back of the ship. I'm trying to actually make interesting detail, rather than just random extrusions.
So. Give me greeble ideas!
-
It's my Charon (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/freespace/TMA-Images/Charon-Front.jpg) class with side pods! :D
I guess therefore since I like my own ship I have to like this one too :)
-
It has future IMHO :)
How many polys???
-

GAHHH! I'm forever cursed to make ships that look a lot like someone elses!
Raven: about 1100 polys :D
-
And I'm forever cursed to make ships that are named the same as someone elses :( LOL
-
not bad, add more detail to the front and the side pods

Well considering that mine was in parts a shameless rip off of the Tiger's Claw from Wing Commander I wouldn't feel too bad :)
Great. 5000 posts!
-
I've never even seen the Tiger's Claw...never played WC
-
Wasn't saying you have :) Most ships are influnced by something else so unless you make a completely alien-looking ship it's going to look a bit like something else :D
-
It also looks kinda like the Sith interceptor from Phantom Menace. :)
-
Looking good! (more polys on the 'pods please! ;))
-
I really like the main hull, just needs turrets.
As for the sides, I don't like the shape, are they simply side engines or armor? How about making them a little thinner and more form fitting length wise? I don't know what I mean lol but for some reason it's just not working for me right now.. ;)
-
You need to do something with those fugly engines. :p

Agreed. The mod still has potential, though. :)

Just 1100?? I could swear it looked like more to me
Nicely done
-
i think it would be more fitting as a corvette like the moloch.
not that strong, but a fast way to get some fighter cover somewhere.
-
I'd try some blobby engines
-
I'd make the nose larger and bulkier and make it a corvette or a frigate.

think I should cut down on the length a bit too?
Raven: that's because I've been naughty and have quite a few >4 point poygons. :D
And Blobby Engines? Got a pic that I can look at that portrays blobby engines?
And cutting it down to corvette status would probably be good.

Way I understand it the more >4 point polys the better with HT&L. Means reduced load times. :)

not reall (I'm lazy), btw I was thinking at something anime-style, a blobby superstructure with a mech undestructure.
Something vaguely like the engines of the pods in SW ep1 or, more closely, the engines of the Nadesico (if you know what I'm talking about).

Not necessarily. It's quite futuristic-looking (in FS terms), and long, slim hull works well in that kind of ships.

corvette or frigate, about 1200 meters long, armour is not extremely tough, can dish out quite some damage but it's biggest advantage is that it is mu;tipurpose, it can survive fights wih a lot of things, it's fast and it carries fighters.
that's my interpretation of it.
it looks cool.
-
Very, VERY nice.
-
Will look great once you do something with those awfully bland side pods. :)
-
and a great big *bump* in the night...
Tell me, do you like the new direction with the side pods? Also, what's it look like *now*.

(*awaits calls of "PHALIC" due to round side pods*)
-
........ wheels?
-
Keen gear, it's a drag racer!
-
Now it looks like it was built by Gnomes. Gnomish enginerring tries to incorporate huge wheels that are inhabited by giant space hamsters. These hampsters turn the wheels thus providing electrical power to the engines. Though the creatures themselves have a speed limit of 30ms, most of the time the only drawback to this design is the amount of space availabel to store the hampster's food supply. A standard Gnomish sidewheeler can operate for 3-4 months before needing to secure more provisions to power the drive system. (yes this is from spelljammer D&D)
Please change those side things!

I'm open to suggestions.
-
Anything but wheels? :p
-
I'd suggest you evaluate what purpose those side pods serve and model them appropriately. If they serve no purpose, and you can't get rid of them, make them as thin as possible and call them fins.
-
those wheels are ugly:ick: :ick:
now ship looks like rattle for beby;) ;)
-
I like the direction the fuselage is taking. :)
-
the sidepods on the first pics where better, this just doesn't fit.
but perhaps alter those on the first so that they look sleeker, this ship you are making shows nothing of raw power, it screams out finesse though, shape it like that.
-
Alright...lets give this another go. New sidepods are slimmer & shorter, they're also more "in" on top + bottom, and asymetrical on the y-axis:

Better?
-
Very much so.
Did you do any work on the main body since the last time?
-
No, I didn't. Trying to get the sidepods worked out before going back to the main body
-
I guess it's the angles.
-
uh...bump?
anyone out there? or too busy looking at Trashman's latest brick?
-
i guess those engine pods need a little more detail, i don't know exactly what they need im not an artist
-

Too busy making my own bricks, but that's besides the point. ;)
-
I like it. I think i personally preferred the round pods, though. They were more, um, distinctive. Just needed better detailing or something.
-
the round ones looked too stuck on, these new ones are better, but they need more detail, cut some holes in them, and make recesed intakes, and round exaust ports (ect)
-
I like the last one.
-
Technicaly, the pods would be called "Nacelles" (look at the Von Braun from System shock 2 to see what i mean)
but that's just me.. Looking good thus far
-
ah, good, so I'll detail it up, and hopefully have some more pics by this weekend.
-
Excellence.
-
ok, so, what's the ship gonna be?
a destroyer or the corvette-with-fighterbay-thingy?
-
Right now I'm leaning towards the 'vette with fighter bay idea.
-
In all seriousness, I preferred it with the round nacelles. As already stated, it made it look different. It gave it a little character.
If it were me, I'd work on blending the main body into the round nacelles, rather then getting rid of them altogether. It doesn't really look right with either, at the moment.
Something might also need to be done with the front. I'm not sure a wedge is the most suitable design for a small ship.
Other than that, great :)
-
Yeah, it gave it the character of a drag racer. :p
