http://www.unrealtournament.com/ (209MB)
Thought it might be of interest. Albeit the full game will apparently require 5.5 GB to isntall, so it'd have to be a hell of a game to justify 1/6th of my hard drive.
-
it has assault maps again. yay!
i dont have any HD space though. time for a new 120GB drive
-
:wtf: I see a bunch of PHP code...
-
Um, yeah. Odd. Try the link from www.bluesnews.com
EDIT - seems to work now from the link above. tres bizarre....
-
Me likey! It may even coax me to do some online play. Not a whole lot different from 2003 graphically, but it does have vehicles, lots of em!
-
2004? whoa, first time I hear about this one :p
-
Downloading it as we speak
-
Heh, its the same game with a few mods to the gun models, new maps and some vehicles.
-
im not even gonna bother ... its NEVER going to run on my pc
-
Same here, although UT was a fun game.
-
Pretty fun game. I'm not to huge on multiplayer shooters, so a demo has the just right amount of content to last while I'm still interested.
I really like the vehcles. The Hover-ship (Manta I think its called) is especially original. And there's no greater satisfaction than getting a multi-kill with the side blades on the buggy.
-
5.... point.... 5.... gigabytes....
I once had a hard drive that wasn't this big.
-
I remember my first 20 MB harddrive :D
-
Not actually Dl-ed it yet - cna you use a joystick to control the hoverfly-thing?
Incidentally, I'm still waiting for a game with a flyable dropship in MP.... Breed is my current best hope.
-
I think the 5.5 gigs is mostly becase they intend to ship a crapload of 3D software and tutorials along with the game. They seem very serious about promiting the moding capabilities, so they are including everything one needs to make models and such. Its supposed to be 6 CDs or 2 DVDs. There will most likely be the option to install just the game without all the extras.

There's going to be a flyable dropship for both the Humans and Cybrids. (Cybrids=Evil Robots//Constructs)
Plus Tribes 1 and 2 have had flyable dropships for years.

Yes, well bear in mind that i only got a decent net connection a few months ago - and thus years after the Tribes games came out.
I'm not too keen UT2004 now, actually.... doesn't feel 'right' to me, and the vehicle controls are a bit ****. Although i'm looking forward to that Soldner game and Joint Ops - I want to strafe people, dammit! :)
-
You had the chinook in Renegade. Not a dropship, of course, but still a nice flying personal carrier.
-
yea but sniper rifles took them out way too easily. they needed to balance
-
No game, no matter how great it is, should occupy more than 3gig.
-
Just started playing it tonight, I love this game. Nothing more satifisying than Onslaught and slicing people with buggy blades.
Didnt do too bad Hehe.
-
So who's going to make the HLP server?
-
the game seems entertaining enough. Not that much graphical advancement from 2003 but that doesn't matter since it still looks pretty enough. And what really matters... no lag with full graphics :D
-
Silent Hill 3 is 5GB to install as well. I can only afford to have a single huge game on my computer at once. Games are starting to get damned huge. Thankfully at least they're starting to come on DVDs so there's less juggling involved in installing them. I only have to juggle things into the trash instead to clear enough room now.
-
Onslaught is.... lovely
-
As I've said above, a large chunk of those 5.5 gigs will probably be the 3D software a tutorials.
Comming off of XMP, I thought the vehicle controls rocked. Its all a matter of perspective. The fact that I wasn't crashing into things ever 2.3 seconds allowed me to actually enjoy driving the vehicles.

http://www.gamespy.com/articles/february04/ut2004dvd/
To quote; "The minimum install reportedly takes 5.5GB"
Which i would interpret as the bare essentials of the game - ie. not tutorials, no modding software, and possibly no video/audio that could be streamed.
-
SIX DISCS??!1/!1 If i had a DVD-ROM for my PC i'd get the DVD version, it definiately would be worth the extra $20.
-
Sweetness. The demo just got released for Mac and Linux. :D
-
It's good to see them supporting all OS' - the sooner more companies do the same, the better,
-
I'd like to use this opportuniy to say:
ONSLAUGHT ROCKS
thank you
-
I'm having some issues with the game at the moment (it looks kinda ****, but runs badly).
That said, everything seems good. Onslaught does indeed rock, and so does assault (a lot more "story" to it... certain objectives that makes sense etc.) So, so far so good.
-
Does no one read anything?
The Demo has lower-resolution graphics than the full game, because of the size required by them. And thus, the graphics and performance of the demo are radically different. Btw Thunder, I'm using a 1.8XP/GF3 with no frame problems at all, so you need to seriously sort out your system.
-
Oh I read, but I doubt you'd expect me to recite Shakespeares complete works... likewise I'm not going to trawl through readmes and what have you to discover differences in textures between the demo and the full version. They should make such information more obvious.
As for sorting my system, I'm all ears. What've you got yours set to etc? Given I can run most other games out there with no problems at all I'm understandably reaching the conclusion that the game is to fault - not my system.

Not to sound a smartarse of anything, but the file is called a 'read me' for good reason..........
-
Do you read the EULA for every piece of software you install? Or the read me for every program? I doubt it. It's a common known fact that they all contain mostly the same information and that it's only really necessary to read them if you experience issues with the software.

The readme? Yep - because it's written at the latest possible stage before shipping whereas manuals are normally written much earlier (for printing reasons).
-
I rarely read manuals either. I've played enough games and/or used software to know the basics of what I need to know to get started. Of course if I have issues I'll reference the read me, any manual or online aid as a first course towards solving the issue.
Suffice to say, when you download a demo you expect it to be just that. If there are changes like lower resolution textures packaged with the demo as opposed to the full game then I'd expect it to be made slightly more obvious since - at least where FPS games are concerned - graphics are part of the bread and butter.

Well, i'm not sure how/where else they could put it... although wasn't it also shoved at that 'buy me!!' screen at the end which no-one ever reads?
NB: they did the same thing with the previous UT2003 demo, too.
-
If they put it on the "buy me" screen I certainly haven't read it... sorry but things like that really bug me. I'm trying to quit the demo, not seek further persuasion through advertising.
Perhaps, when entering the graphics options screen, a popup was displayed stating that high resolution textures are only availbe on the full game. Most enter that to change their controls etc (and the graphics tab is the first to show up when you click on settings) so it'd be hard to avoid.
-
Just be glad you don;t have to wait to click the 'quit' button........
I would guess the reason there isn;t a change in the graphics setting is because the texture change isn't in code, it's just in the filesize. They probably wouldn't want to touch the code unless necesarry.... i'm not sure how much stuff they would remove from the full game code.
-
Hold on. The game looks pretty ****ing 1337 on my system and runs silky smooth with maximum visual settings. Are you telling me the game itself will look better?
-
^ Yes
