is it possible to use an armed freighter as a support ship? i want to make a pirate assault freighter that would accompany pirate fighters on raids. essintially i want to make a ship that i can use as a freighter, a criuser, and support ship.

have you tryed just giveing it the suport ship flag, I don't know if it would be able to use turrets

The problem you would find there, I think, is that it is the support ship which docks with it's target, not vice-versa.
This would lead to two problems that I can think of....
1) A small cruiser trundling it's way halfway across the battlefield to re-arm you, very easy target. This can obviously be improved by you flying toward it
2) Freighter Judo, where the freighter spins round at ridiculous angles and speeds in order to line up with you, quite often cracking your wingmates one in the process. This is almost as funny as Freighter Baseball, where a Poseidon or the like weilds something 15 times it's size with deadly ferocity ;)
That said, I don't think it would cause a problem to set a ship with Freighter and Support Ship flags at the same time, best bet is to give a go and see what happens :)

Might work with a Poseidon, given it's small size and relative agility

the ship will only be about 160 meters in length. i havent even started texturing it yet and i still have to model turrets. im still debating its role.
it would be cool to a passive rearm mode where the support ship does its own thing and you have to actually fly to the dock and line up. it wouldnt be a ship class but rather an extra flag you can add to a ship. when you call for support the nearest passive support ship would be targeted and the dock would be marked. you would then need to manuver your ship within a certain distance from the dock, then your ship would be taken over by ai to complete the dock.
