Okay.. i figured since a few people have a camera of some description, i kinda figured a little competition is in order.. the prize.. nothing much, just showing off some photography..
the content: something nice and simple.. a sunset.. here, i'll kick things off..
that's from my front yard in Devonport.
oh, and lvlshot tags would be nice
-
Meh... You don't wanna see a wintery cold, miserable, NY sunset. :ick:
Though that shot is beautiful... :eek2:

One stormy morning at about 5:00... no digital alterations were performed.

-
that's better than I was expecting from you
-
Even if it wasn't of a hot girl in a porn-star pose, considering it was taken with a camera-phone, it's pretty damn good quality.
-
in keeping with the theme of sunrises/sunsets:
this was from my flight to england in december, just before christmas
-
An0n's wins pretty much by default. Nobody can compete with one with a hot girl as subject matter.
Haven't had a scanner in ages. Haven't been around anything remotely of visual interest in nearly as long. I think the Midwest is trying to make my brain kill me.
But here's an old picture.

I can't be arsed reducing this down so I'll just post a link and a warning:
http://members.westnet.com.au/gweber/DSCF0018.JPG
Warning: It was taken at the full res (2048x1536) of my dads digital camera meaning it's bloody huge both physically and in terms of file size (826K) so will bend dial-up connections over and do unnatural things to them.
-
This is a pic i took of my friends cat a while ago.
-
Skies, eh? Okay, here's a recent one, no editing. :)
-
That cat looks pissed windrunner.
I give an0n the 'unfair advantage award' for his choice of subject matter.

-
I'd rather call that a "sunrise", but heh :p

to be accurate, that would be a moon rise ( in France, we have a very "elegant" way of saying "hey pal, there's a hole in your pants": "Oh! I can see the moon" :p )
But I see you have no sense of humour :p

Actually, here's one to counter Anon's photo. Taken from a rather crazy party when I was in Denmark. :thepimp:

Yeah, she has a face. :D Its just as a photo though, so I gotta scan it in. But she's hot. Trust me. :D
-
No.
We want proof.
-
Sigh... Ok...
-
Sorry about the quality, since I dont own a scanner, I had to use my camera to take a photo of them... Yeah I know..
Well, this is the best photo I could find of her...
And here's just me staking a claim to her. If you cant read it says, "Mike was here. SO WAS STEPH!" :D

Photos, eh? Hmm. Ah, here we go. Some film scans of seagulls.
Please excuse the grain. It was a dim day and seagulls move fast, hence I had to use fast film.
Conclusion: Seagulls like chips. They're also fooled by flying pebbles, if you run out of chips.

I'm fairly sure I think the same kind of thing about humans.

I beg to differ:
I can't be fooled with flying pebbles.

I'm saddened that no one has gotten the Finding Nemo reference.

We say that over here now, whenever we a hot girl...
Yeah, its stupid, quoting Disney when we see a hot girl...

By some strange twist of fate, I watched that movie twice. And I got the quote, now you've pointed it out. I just don't really go hunting things like that ^_^

A girl who lives in the orphanage.
BTW I'd just be interested in what kind of cameras people are using to take these with. If you'd be kind enough to post them, that would be super.
Mine: Nikormat made ca. 1970, 35mm SLR with B&W film. Old school.
Note: If you can't see the above picture, it's because Geocities sucks. If someone would be so kind as to host it for me, that would be wonderful.
-
Mine: Nikon FE 35mm SLR, 35-105mm lens, I think it was Kodak 400 colour film. Might've been higher. I usually use B&W film (I love limited mediums, as I find they leave more opportunity to be creative in positioning etc.) but these had to be colour because they were taken for something in particular.
EDIT: Corsair, here you go. Hosted. I love these, by the way. You're a lucky bastard to get subject matter like that, everything around my way and practically anywhere I go is as dull as ditchwater.

A selection of some of the better photos I've taken with my DSC-V1 since the summer.... Emphasis being on scenery and not people, since I'd rather not post other people's pictures all over without their permission.
All photos are completely untouched aside from resizing to 640x480.
Tree bark comes out best with low light angles and lit from a direction perpendicular to the camera's facing:

Random shot of one of the buildings in the Jerusalem High-Tech Park (bit blurry due to long exposure):

A little cropping to enhance visual impact of the different levels (3rd's theory, each 'section' of the photo should take up roughly a third of the picture. Only a theory, but I find it helps sometimes), and that photo would be absolute perfection.
-
I don't agree: unbalance makes a picture more lively.
-
Where would you crop it?
EDIT: Darn you, Venom, slow down! :p
-
Well, Sandwich, I would've tried to illustrate it visually, but it seems to have disappeared off the server :S Generally, I'd take some off the top and right-hand side, if the picture in my head serves me right.
Venom: Oh, I have nothing against imbalance. Imbalance can skew a picture with interesting results, yes. However, that's a can, not a will. As a general rule the 3rd's works (can't remember where I got it from), except for special circumstances that the photographer can take advantage of as they come.

No, no! Bad Beowulf!
Sandwich: It's appeared again, wahey. Here's my quick attempt at cropping it, it's not brilliant but it ought to give an idea of what I was trying to do:
-
That'd make a sick background wallpaper, if I had an oddshaped resolution again.
-
For odd shaped things, I usually either just add some black on the top and bottom to get it up to size, or do the same with a little fade-in. It ends up looking better than full-screen wallpapers, sometimes.
-
I have the ~2500x1900 resolution original, if anyone wants a wallpaper... ;)
-
Cheers Odyssey! :)
And I think that you cropped down Sandwich's pic quite nicely.
*raises hand* Sandwich, I'd like a wallpaper pretty please. Preferably with cropping like what Odyssey did...

Thanks for the background dude...it'll most likely stay up there for a while.
You know, I had been planning on visiting Israel for a while to see some friends but that hasn't quite worked out the way I was hoping it would. I was really excited...ready to experience the famed nightlife in Herzeliya and Tel Aviv. I've heard it's pretty good...

I wouldn't know that much about the night life, especially not in Tel-Aviv or Herzeliya. I can't stand Tel-Aviv as a city - butt-ugly industrial buildings, slums, and glass-coated high-rises. What a sad combo.
I mainly hang out in J-lem (for obvious reasons), but even here I'm not one who frequents night clubs and discotheques (sp?). I prefer spending money on good food - there's a great coffee shop and restaurant "scene" here. Put Starbucks out of business pretty quick, the local places did. :p

Stryke: Got high-res of the metal dealie?
-
Sandwich: Big ol' rusty ol' caterpillar treads. All sorts of derelict farming equipment lying around out here, it ain't good for scavenging but it can look pretty cool.
Really a pity all of it's so crapped-out, be kinda fun to get some proper motors and **** and go all Dog Solitude with the crap out here.
KT: Metal dealie... you mean the truck or the treads?
Oh, and here's a pair that actually came out better, most of those were just what was lying on my desk at the moment I was testing the new toy out.

Stryke, you have a great sense of photography there... if I were you I'd develop it and branch out in any way you can.

i like these a lot, most artistic photography isn't my thing, but this is very nice indeed.

New desktop for me there. Nice, really nice.
-
So, how big is this backlog?
-
Macrophotography is funnnn....Stuff looks so cool close up.
-
1cm macrophotography can be even more fun, on occasion. I tried it with a miniscule macro lens and some teleconverters I somehow managed to acquire once, with intriguing results. Things like that look interesting because it's something you're not at all used to seeing, but it's not like microscopic images which are so radically different as to be unrecognisable.
-
Corsair: Indeed. And it's what's left when you've had your fill of sunsets. :D
Sandwich: Working on that, much as I can. It's one of those few things I don't get bored of too easily. Only problem really is the scarcity of proper photo courses and stuff.
Steak: Um, many. :D
And... more you say? Predictably enough, the scanner crapped out on the thirteenth one and I've gotta go poke at it until I figure out what's making it give me scan lines, but I suppose this'll do.

3) dunno, can't really see any feeling here
4) i like it, 2 pieces of twined wire coming from a tree wich grown around them, right?
5) nice shot, how did you take it?
6) strange how cool a simple basement light can be.
7)what is it?
8) nice, nice indeed, i like nature pictures
9) i like this one, the viewpoint makes it look like it was taken from a ladder or something flying.
10) fungus on treebark, right? nice, it really takes some time to see what it is
11) dunno what it is, really.
12) nice, what kind of plant is it?

Agreed.

Kas: The telephone pole one? I stood on the ground and pointed the camera. Granted, the ground was rather bumpy there...
I'm not entirely sure what #7 is, which really bothers me because I can remember exactly the circumstances under which I took most of the pictures (hell, half the reason I started taking pictures in the first place was as a memory aid). I'm pretty sure it was a tanning bed.
Ten's on brick, actually. Really, really ancient house I was doing some ****work at (literally. And you'd be surprised at how much more wet fertilizer can weigh on a hot day).
And eleven's just some construction-yard spraypaint on a country road. I just liked the sort of snakey impression of movement it gave me.
Your guess is as good as mine for the grass. It's not native, the odds of me being able to identify it are pretty slim. Some ornamental stuff in front of a minimansion.
Thanks for your comments, I wasn't so sure about the water tower one either (though that was far and away the most interesting picture I've taken here in the past three or so months. Really.)
Sandwich: Nope. Got webspace enough, and while I like getting feedback on my stuff, I always figured it'd be more efficient to spend my time trying to find people who could express their interest in dollar values, if you know what I mean. Naturally, I've never had much luck, but then again I've fared better there than in trying to pull a steady paycheck. And last time I checked DeviantArt didn't exactly thrill me. Maybe I had it set on "show only badly-done scribblings of the sort most people are content to just line their notes with" or something.
But while I'm stuck out here I might give it a shot, I dunno. Guess it can't hurt.

I got some good feedback on some army pics I posted there - just make sure you categorize them correctly. Yours would definitely be something along the lines of "Artistic Photography" and not "Random Doodlings That Came Out Better Than Dog Drool Patterns". ;)
-
All right, all right...
...Neh, they've got some really terrible wording on their license agreement. There's parts that are okay, and there's parts that let them do things like sell my stuff to whoever they like. No wonder such a huge chunk of the stuff's just some six-year-old's doodlings. I guess I'm going to trust that they won't be any better at hawking my stuff than I am.
Oh, and there'll be a couple more up in that last post soon as I'm done using the power cord to listen to some Van Halen. I guess I gotta go and get another one of those now... or start using my stereo...

Love it, Stryke. I know what you mean by backlog... I had a backlog of several hundred photos a couple of months ago. Accursed digital, it makes you take photos of everything. ;)
