Title: Today's Reason To Frown
Post by: Setekh on February 17, 2004, 09:11:28 am
(caught from the CGR (http://www.christianguitar.org) forums)

This afternoon, my dad was supposed to drive me to school for a meeting, but he got a migraine headache a few minutes before we were meant to leave (the kind where you just want to vomit for no good reason), so I had to get on my bike for the 40 minute ride in 37ºC heat. :ick:

Today's reason to Frown:

The rain outside has turned 1 meter deep snow into water, my legal copy of UT2003 lacks a cd-key, I haven't got any sleep lately, my estonian grammar teacher said that a smart monkey could do better grammar than me, my chemistry teacher said roughly the same thing, I have no time whatsoever to do any socialising in the weekdays thanks to horrible amount of homework 'n ****, I missed a play I wanted to see, because I mixed up the dates, and getting a next ticket will mean standing 4 hours in a line at 6 AM in the morning.

That's frowny enough for you?

I have chips, beans, peas, sweetcorn and battered fish; A few good cheats for Gangsters 2; A copy of BSG-2003 Part 2; And I've had an adequate amount of sleep.

I have no reasons to frown........aside from a lack of money/a car/a girl.

I got turned down for a sysadmin position, after working my way through five interviews over the course of three weeks. This, after I had turned down a job at IBM due to the schedule preventing me from seeing my wife for the entire duration of the contract.

it actually raineded yesterday. crappy place I moved too, back home the weather had the decency to stay below 0C the whole winter. were I to guess the temperature atm, I'd say -1 - -2 or something. not february cold, at least. not t-shirt weather, as it's been all the time now. don't think it's been lower than -13.

- goddamn possessed PoS fs2_open (1_20_2004 build) + S:AH combo -> INSTANT UNSTABILITY AND IMPOSSIBLE MISSIONS (yes, I am a huge nerd and I pray for death)
- none of my friends is doing anything this evening, means I just have to hang around at home and [see first part]
- no food + no money + no alcohol + low on tobacco makes Janos a sad boy
- It's ****ing February. Which means that it's cold and dark (though NOW sun shines and it's only -7 degrees C in shadow - that should change), and there are no birds anywhere - no reason to go outside
- I still can't model in TS3

Eddie, I have no sympathy for you.
Try walking to school in -30C weather, snow and a -40C wind coming off the North Atlantic. Thats reason to frown, but you probably wont be able to because your face is numb. I would have given my left testicle for 37C weather then...

Take your pants off, and you will.

Well, it'll feel like 40*C. Some would argue that hypothermia isn't quite the same thing as actually being warm, but I say **** them.

Reason to frown? Transfer applications. They suck and I hate them. I have to get out of this hellhole into somewhere properly unpleasant, or at least otherwise interesting enough to hold my attention, but it just so turns out that one of the wonderful features of lecture-based college courses is that you no longer have access to professors who can assign a face to a name, much less write a passable letter of recommendation.
Title: Today's Reason To Frown
Post by: Thorn on February 18, 2004, 12:35:14 pm
By the time I got all my pants off it would have been 40C.
3 layers of clothes and I still couldnt feel most of my body.
The walking in that weather wasnt the kicker though. In the time it took me to get to school, they went and cancelled it, SO I HAD TO WALK BACK! When I left in the morning they were saying school was still open.

Its easier to cool off than to warm up.

3dsmax has been rendering a scene all night, I wake up this morning, it's still not done. In the meanwhile, I wanna watch the recently released Naruto movie trailer ( which in fact ended up being a crappy 5 seconds catch line ), which was a real player file. I stupidely decided to install real playuer ( for many reasons I hate it ). So I install it, launche the trailer and... PC crashes. Weeeeeeeeee. A whole night of calcul lost. My reason to frown. Last week sometime I managed to get a really bad case of poison ivy all over my upper thighs and I wake up at night scratching it like hell.

Last night I was awake until 3:30am.. (I get up at 5:45)

and...last night I decided to take my shower around midnight, so when I go downstairs I find the bathroom taken...I missed the first part of Conan O'Brien because I couldnt take my shower until like a half hour later...

 Oh man, I totally empathise. I also have this unnatural hatred for Real Player... man, that sucks. Well, at least it's not like an oil painting that's screwed over, all we have to do is hit "render" again tomorrow night.

My reason's not so bad in comparison. I have this double-18th-birthday party next week that I've been waiting for ages for, but now it turns out the date they picked, I can't go, because I'm doing stuff with relatives. Blegh.

Feel your left hipbone. Move down a few centimeters. There. Now, the same area, but on the side of the of my body as well.

It's on my hip, but it's not quite a bone. It could be a muscle, but the way it hurts, it's either a ligament or a joint. And it feels like I'm smashing a third testicle everytime I run.

And, if put to good use, can even become a source of revenue.

I think the unemployed of HLP are probably a little bit too dispersed to organize an effective mugging, though. It really doesn't have the same effect when the big guy standing behind you with the bike chain is actually 1400 miles behind you emailing his threats.

I like snow, but I don't know if it's in spite or because of I've never really been exposed to it (closest is sleet, no thanks).

My reason: did some driving today, left the handbrake on for about half a minute after heading off. Dad displeased... :nervous:

Thats nothing man. In high school I got an aluminium baseball bat hit me in the nose. Right on the bridge of it. The end of the bat. The bat was traveling in a straight line. My physics teacher got bored and took us out to play baseball. Some people should just not bother with sports at all. You do not let go of the bat halfway through the swing. If you've ever played Splinter Cell and used the Ring Airfoil you'll know what it sounded like just before, and as the bat hit me.

Pfff. That's nothing. You people should try playing football/soccer with some of my friends.

We play a 'no rules' variation of the game so every dinner time for over 2 years we'd all end up getting ****ed-up before going back to college.

There'd be people being tripped, punched, covertly bitten, thrown into walls and kicked in the face once they were on the floor. And more often than not, someone would get pissed and there'd be a fight.

It was all in fun though.

Haha.

"Well, I need the job. I've been hella-poor since I got kicked out of college."
"You were kicked out of college?"
"Oh, not for anything serious. I just had a disagreement with one of the teachers."

Agreed. Even if we are not seriously considering it at all, joking about it trivialises it for the people who really are thinking of ending their own lives, which is a terrible thing.

Tired, and going to be more tired tomorrow. :p Hope I don't fall sick again.

Ideal gases, KT? This is all I know about them:

[q]A gas that obeyed the ideal gas equation exactly under any conditions would be an ideal gas, but no actual gas perfectly conforms to the equation at all temperatures and pressures. Under the conditions of high temperatures and low pressures present over much of Earth’s surface, however, most real gases behave as ideal gases. Gases with boiling points below –173ºC (-279ºF), such as hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and the noble gases, come closest to being ideal gases. Gases with relatively high boiling points, such as carbon dioxide, obey the gas laws only approximately.[/q]

Yay Encarta! :D

Wow, today has sort of been sucky and not.

Alarm clock failed.
Binder's zipper ripped off.
Sick stomach  this morning.
Left my english binder with papers at school over the weekend.
Said papers were due first period.
Chemistry test of death.
40 minute run in 90 degree weather, that was fun.
Now I have to go out and get school supplies and junk before comming home and doing homework and getting to sleep around 12, just to wake up and do it all over again.

On the bright side, I'm eating a cinnamon muffen, I might go to Best Buy, and I think passed the chemistry test.

Knight: running in 90 degree weather? been they're done that - i set my all time fastest mile time (5 minutes flat) at 93 degrees [and no, i cannot match that time right now, i'd probably be lucky to get an 8 minute as i haven't been able to work out for like... 3 and a half months because i've been busy)

Was kid, didn't want to lend my tennis racket to some chick, she tried to take it from me using force ( the fool :p ), I didn't let go, so she scratched my hand to bleeding point.
I can't remember if she got the racket or not in the end :p

There's also that one when I tried to open a stuck glue pot with a cutter. I reaped a fair portion of flesh out of my hand. I'm sure not many people here have seen their own bones, well, I can say I do :p

Ha! "Hold him down, he's too strong!"

Yeah, acoustic alright. I re-string fairly regularly, but to start with I had no idea how much tension I ought to put on. The tightness of a steel/bronze string, though, is incredible - hurt like nothing else I've felt! I'm glad I didn't cop it in the face.

Reason to frown:  It's been 3 weeks since I've ordered my stupid AMD 2600XP processor.  I ordered it on Friday, the 5th and was supposed to be shipped UPS Ground.  By last friday I hadn't received it so I called the company and said they didn't have it in stock but were going to ship it on Monday (the 15th) and upgrade the shipping so I'd have it by Wednesday.  It's now Friday again and still nothing.

If I don't get it by today, I'm calling the company and telling them that if I don't get it by Monday that I'll be cancelling my order and giving them a terrible review on pricewatch.

Was the TV on at the time?

fortunately, my major scar (from driving a big tipper truck into a wall and cracking open me noggin) is hidden by hair.....  Although i have a bit on the back of my head where the hair was burnt off when i was a baby...... which is incredibly bloody annoying as everyone except me can see it.

"Why's there a hole in your hair?"
"What hole?"
"There...."
"Where?"
etc.

[color=66ff00]THe reason I asked Setekh was that you should check the bridge and nut for any sharp edges, make sure the string slots on the nut are not too tight (gripping the strings) and make sure that the angle from where the string leaves the peg hole to where it hits the top of the bridge is not excessive. Both can cause string breakage. Then again if it doesn't happen too often it's nothing to worry about.

I don't know if the TV was on at the time aldo. As for the 'he's too strong' bit... you wouldn't like me when I'm bleeding... ;)

Yeah... :) Later I found out that the strings had wound up super-tight because they'd gone from a hot to cold very quickly (dropped 15 degrees in a couple of hours, it was a crazy day). I hadn't tuned up when I began playing, and so I didn't realise how much tension they had in them - then I started playing quite loudly, and it snapped. Lesson well learned. ;)

This sounds really lame, but my right-handed ring fingernail just snapped. :o That means I can't play fingerpicking on my guitar until it grows back... which is like, my prime hobby for leisure (aside from taking photos). Gonna take a couple of weeks to grow back. :(

Ouch, that does suck man - it doesn't sound lame at all, kinda like if my bike were to get a puncture or break - yes I'd lose an important method of travel but I'd also lose a lot of freedom that I enjoy with that thing. Good luck growing it back! (I don't suppose you could get a fake could you? Just a thought).

As for me... it's a sunny day outside and I'm stuck in work. I've also got a lot of university application forms to go through when I get home... so that's my reason. Small really - but irritating.

Heh, thanks. Yes, in fact I could get an artificial one and stick it on, but they're kind of expensive and I guess I could use a little break. Cheers for the good wishes. ;)

Uni application forms, eh? What degrees are you applying for? Yeah, I empathise with being stuck indoors... I got that very same feeling today, and I'll be the same for the rest of the week (though it'll be at uni rather than work). Hopefully you'll be able to get out and about in the days to come, since Summer starts in a week.

ouch, that does suck..  i remembered when i rolled my ankle once, (which is quite easy for me, since i have hyper-mobile joints) and couldn't go for my nightly walk (yeah, i'm kinda trying to get fit, instead of being a fat slob) so it was kind of annoying to be stuck inside a fair bit. the loss of one bit of freedom and all.

also from time-to-time, i have a benign tremor in my hands (i.e, they shake like crazy) so it's well neigh impossible to draw anything..

but right now, what's irritating me, is the severe lack of decent art supplies, i'm particular about what medium i draw on, and right now, even the local K-mart doesn't have those visual arts diaries i use for my sketches and comicing. instead i have to use some crappy sketchbooks with only 20 or so sheets of paper, and pratically no backing on them..
