I'm still waiting for my Anniversary Ed. preorder (I'm one of the unlucky bastards who stumbled upon this game far, far too late. HotU doesn't cut it) and the sound only intro file o nthat site has me really wanting to see the actual thing.

Kind of shows how far ahead of it's time Freespace2 was. They were willing to have a 5 minute long cutscene back then. Very few games do that even now :)

now the FS1 intro on the other hand was a ****ing work of art, were is that damned thing by the way, I was just looking for it the other day, I did manage to get hallfight, but the intro I could not find

Rendering up 5 minutes of animation, even on a high level computer can be long winded if you have things like speculars, volumetrics and reflection/refraction. 3DS/Max is a bloody good rendering Engine , but Interplay were on a time budget :( Also, I think the Poser Engine was used for the scenes with people in, and Poser is far from the fastest render engine ever written.

Nonetheless, The storyline content of the movie is up there with the Diablo series, which can't be bad :)

Post by: ChronoReverse on February 21, 2004, 03:14:27 pm: You know, I've actually re-encoded all the FS2 movies in slightly better quality (same file sizes) since codecs have improved since they were first encoded.

Also, I've fixed the glitches in the avis that I could find (intro has glitch in beginning, one of the monologues fade to black and stay black for 10 seconds, etc.)

I don't have webspace, but if anyone wants me to upload them somewhere, just ask.

The FS1 avis mostly look good to me though, so I'll leave those alone.

I kept watching the intro over when I went looking for that link :) It is one of the best cutscenes for certain. :)

Nah i already bought Freespace once, and Freespace 2 twice. I wouldn't even want to play through the missions to see the movies. The Freespace conversion doesn't have the movies does it?

I just saw the original FS intro cut-scene, and all I can say is that is SOOOOOOO UB3R!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And that fighter....i've never seen it before....my god...is the original FS as good as that cut-scene?? (story-wise).

And that lucifer......they never showed a lucifer in FS2.....it looks so ugly in FS2........looks soo....EVIL in that movie!!

Just an interesting idea, but how about the exit velocity of the lucifer - its so slow, its menacing. Can the Juggernaught have that Kind of entry - make it truly evil!! (but not as evil as that lucifer...)

I have the fs2 intro on CD, so i dont mind the hallfight at all! :D
