Title: dual monitor switching
Post by: Bobboau on February 18, 2004, 08:57:15 am
is there a way to quickl;y in software switch the monitors so with a single shortcut (or something) I could switch my monitors

also whle I'm on the subject, how would you get more than 2 monitors, would it be as simple as adding more pci graphics cards?

no, not AFAIK. you need a multi-mon capable graph card, anything recent should do. even my radeon 7000 and my laptop's integrated card can do it.

I'm not quite sure what you're after, but if it's simply changing the current monitor to a different one you can do that with an external monitor switch box.

If you want to display different things on the two screens, then yes. But I'm not quite sure what Bobboau is trying to achieve.

I have two monitors, both hooked up to the same card, they are displaying properly, with diferent things in the diferent monitors. I want to know if there is a way to put the stuf that's in one monitor on the other and vice versa, there by switching them. so for example, I have the TV on the second monitor, IE in the primary, something good comes on and I want the TV in the primary and IE in the secondary, is there a way to do that in one fell swoop.

the second question was can I get more that just two monitors. unrelated to the first question.

1. It would depend on your graphics card's drivers. Presumably there ought to be an option somewhere, as the drivers are the things taking control of distributing the output.
2. No, not unless you get a graphics card with 3+ outputs. Adding more graphics cards may work, depending on how your display management software takes it all.
