heres a little something i through together for everyone because i was really bored. enjoy!
skybox tutorial (http://www.angelfire.com/ak3/nukewar/skybox/Skyboxtutorial.doc)
its about a meg and a half, tell me itf its any good.
-
please, Nuke, put this in the wiki. for one, it'll save your webspace, bandwidth, and other things, but it will also let people without Word handy view it, and it would be easier to acces.
-
it will open in wordped, though it screws up a couple pics
-
that's not what i meant. if stuff is on a webpage it is easier for people to just browse around and read it. downloading and opneing a file is something lasy people won't do.
more importantly, if it's in the wiki, others can help correcting and expanding this, without you having to change this file each time.
-
the only problem is that the wiki doesnt support graphics. without visual aids it is much more confusing for newer users. i will consider writing a text only version for the wiki.
-
ok, i made a wiki version, just how do i log in?
-
Just login with a WikiWord (i.e a login with two capital letters like KaraJorma or NuKe). Password is unimportant.
-
i posted the new instructions. i hope i wasnt too long winded.

How about the part where you discuss how to incorporate that POF into the game. I have the Fred 1.20.04 build, and I don't see a skybox option in the background editor.
What version of Fred are you using to put in in a mission? And are the current builds of FSO support skyboxes.
-
The OpenGL version of FRED definately has a box that allows you to enter the name of a skybox.
-
wiki does support images, just type the image URL, and it should work.
-
The problem is that you still have to host the images somewhere.. So it doesn't save you much space.
Maybe Styxx can make us an image uploader to be used for the Wiki.
-
A meg and a half... not too much for a modem. Thanks, Nuke, this might come in handy. ;)
-
ah yes, bthe bad grammer, the spelling errors, the poorly formatted screenshots. everything that makes a tutorial great.
-
Send the screenshots to me, Styxx may not have a solution to that image uploading within the Wiki for quite some time. I'll put them online for you somewhere appropriate and post up the links for you to insert.
-
Everything in this (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/freespace/FAQ-Images/Fred-Tips/) folder is going to end up in the Wiki sooner or later so it would be nice to have them hosted on HLP rather than my site for when I eventually finish moving the FAQ over to HLP.
-
feel free to edit my tutorial in any way you see fit and put it anywhere where people can find it.
-
You dont need two capital letters.
Lightspeed01 works fine :D

Have skyboxes always effected ambient light? I've made my own skybox version of the Earth model and all ambient light seem to have been upped into FS2 Retail levels. Or is it just Bobbaou's test build? Are there settings to tweak ambient light?
-
skyboxes are still under development, they are subject to great vaariations from build to build
