I just noticed that GS has started its Title Fight (http://www.gamespy.com/titlefight) Tournament. Here's (http://www.gamespy.com/titlefight/whatisit.shtml) what it is, here's (http://www.gamespy.com/titlefight/matches/0101.shtml) the first face-off, and here's (http://www.gamespy.com/titlefight/matches/0104.shtml) one I know a lot of you will be interested in (Deus Ex vs. SS2).
Interestingly, you can vote multiple times... pity FreeSpace (and not even Descent) is on there. In fact, I think I only found one space-sim (X-Wing vs. Tie). Here's the table of future battles (http://www.gamespy.com/titlefight/brackets.shtml).

Happy February day, fellow denizens.
I'm not sure how many of you guys visit Gamespy, but recently they had a "Title Fight" feature where 64 games would duke it out in a voting system organized by brackets (much like any playoff system like... NCAA March Madness). For their Space Simulation category, they included Tie Fighter, X-Wing: Alliance, and several Wing Commander games as candidate. And, as you can probably guess from the subject line of this post, they neglected Freespace. I really liked some of the games they listed, especially Tie Fighter, but for them to completely spork Freespace 2, well, it was disconcerting.
However, Gamespy says that they're taking in "write-in" candidates for each game category, including Space Simulations. Freespace 2 still has a chance to shove its way back in, and looking at some of the games under consideration, it's a little proposterous that Freespace 2 was not listed.
Lets try to correct it!

The first thread should have all the instructions on writing in a candidate. You don't need to be verbose in your explanation. A quick message should do. Now, I don't know if Freespace 2 can go all the way. Still, we need to let them know that they dropped the big pickle by having a Freespaceless tournament! Is anyone else just as gobstopped as I am?

Gamespy has gone to hell... this is the last (of many) straw!
They say Black & White was an over hyped game, they put Starcraft only as the 2nd best RTS ever.... the line has to be drawn here!! :mad:

Black & White was overhyped. It was a good game but it had some pretty big flaws in it.

FS in the "Extra Life Section?" What's with that?
BTW The first place of TA is more justifiable if you take a look at its Modding community. Absolute Anihilation for instance completely changed the feel of the game - and there are terrible AIs to plug in that beat the crap out of you in 9/10 ocassions.

CastleVania was a heavyweight Nintendo franchise in the days of the NES, but now lags behind the likes of Metroid and Zelda. The heroes of the various games are usually sucessive generations of the Belmont family who kick vampire arse with bullwhips and crossbows and whatnot. The originals were 2D jump-and-whip-stuff platformers but the modern versions are pretty decent 3D adventures from what I hear

System Shock 2 > Freespace 1 & 2 combined, any day of the week. Its a masterpiece of gaming that won more awards, both critical and popular than both of the Freespaces combined.
I would argue, btw, that Castlevania was never a 'nintendo franchise'. Whereas it was indeed on the nintendo, it was a Konami franchise. Zelda and Metroid, by comparison are Nintendo franchises.

I liked System Shock 2, but I'm going to break my consensus from System Shock 2 because of two things: 1.) Deus Ex, made by Warren Spector and much of the System Shock 2 team, is already in the tournament and already represents an evolution of the System Shock 2 design, and 2.) Freespace 2 hasn't had a chance yet. While I was sad to see System Shock 2 lose, it has already gone head to head with its predecessor and been dropped.

Not much time left... when you vote, make sure that your votes register. If GS doesn't accept your vote as valid, they don't say so, they just don't up the count.

it has vote=1 if its alread counted... just refresh or re-paste the url without it, and keep doing it. Unfortuneately, it says that gamespy voting poll's are not compatable wih my form of AOL... :hopping: as i see it, gamespy is a pacific coast company, meaning we have about an hour...
