I'm doing several ships now, and alltought I can handle Terran capships/fighter and texture them, I'm not so good with Vasudan designs...
Anyone willing to texture the GVF Shrike for me?
-
Sorry, I'm no use as a texturer, but I will offer you a *bump*. ;) Btw, is a different name at all possible? I'm sorry, but I think Shrike and I immediately think of Canadians. :p :D
-
Hmm...thanks anyway...Umm...what's wrong with the name?
B.t.w. - here is how my current texture attempt looks:

I could have a go - it would be interesting to tex a Vasudan ship.......I'm not brilliant, but it'll be a learning experience anyway.
BTW I LOVE the design!! I see potential for a pirate/corporate fighter there.......:D
-
No offence, Trashie, but I think you should stick to Terran ships. Smooth and organic isn't really your forté. Not to say that's a failure on your part, but I just couldn't take it if there was an influx of blocky Vasudan designs.
-
I love the ship too but I don't see it as vasudan.
-
it's more a terran stealth fighter
-
I think it's a pretty good model, I think all it is missing is a sub/quad divide to smooth off the edges :) Personally, I'd bend the wings down a tiny bit as well, but that's just a question of taste.
The fun thing about symmetrical models is that you can cut the UV map in half, fold it over, and do half the work in twice the space whilst texturing ;)
-
It's a very low poly model...I ment to smooth quad devide it anyway...
O.k. - anyone who wants it...here: You can smooth it and change it a little if you wish...
Shrike.cob (http://www.swooh.com/peon/Trashman/Misc/Shrike.cob)
EDIT: It has around 444 polys...and it ain't blocky Odyssey! You see blocks everywhere...
*well...technicly, even a sphere is a cube beveld 100 times...*
-
Some rounding and sweeping would help a lot. Something like the curve of the Ulysess maybe? Probably more like the wings of the Horus. The textures aren't at all bad, BTW... er, well, once you get them symetrical anyway :)
And make sure you get a nice glowmap for the green bits
-
Erm... this is a shot from a TS scene where I was praparing to make a render which in the end I would turn into a texture that I would apply using Lithium Unwrap...so.. Only half of the ship was supposed to look good... the other half wouldn't be on the texture anyway...
-
I always find SQD to be a bit "shotgun", with unpredicable results.
Isn't it just cheating too ?
-
Better defined cockpit, please
-
The cockpit is there...it's not just a texture, but from this angle (and with those textures) it looks like there is none
This better?

Texturing Vasudan ships is actually really easy...all you need to do is work from a basis of 'scales', and you're set. Plus you have the advantage of being able to use natural objects like flowers, animals, even architecture as a basis for your designs.
Wherease with Terrans there has to bve some semblance of purpose to the mnodel and the skin..... which can be a lot harder.
-
Hm. This might work in the FS1 Vasudan style.
Could we use it in TVWP?
-
It's obviously a terran fighter with vasudan textures. Fine for the GTVA but definately not looking like a vasudan only design...
-
@Goober5000 - You may
To me it looks Vasudan enough...
-
It's looking great right now! For a Vasudan ship, I'd ask for more curves if possible, but anyway...

Vasudan naming convention = Egyptian mythology
Shrike = European bird
You see the problem? :nervous:
-
So? The Vasudans have been in contact with terrans for long..a little culture mixing and the ilk... If everyone followed that convertion ALL the times, you would have 100 same-named fighters all the time (You only have several greek God/Hero names...Zeus, Athena,etc...)
-
Er.... the Vasudan ships already take their names from Terran culture. They adopted the Egyptian naming conditions as it they felt it was 'suitable' to them., given the historical similarities.
And there's hundreds of Greek / norse (FS1 convention) names for Terran ships.
Try www.pantheon.org.

Beat me to it. I always thought that was pretty convenient, but what the heck. ;)
-
Hey, try moving the cockpit forwards, between the two spikes in the nose. IMHO would make this model a bit more Vasudanish.

I need to know....
-
I'll probs have a play with it this weekend - I'm up to my eyes in work this week I'm afraid......
Do you still want it as a Vasudan ship? Or would it be more at home as a hybrid perhaps?
-
Vasudan...change the model a bit if you want...
There are only a few ship left for me to polish up before I release them and the Shrike is one of them....
-
That ship is not Vasudan TrashMan. Your main problem is the fact that the ends are not rounded off. Vasudan ships do not have ANY 90 degree angles(and probably hardly any >45), and all your models are full of them. Just a little hint. I think I'd vomit to see Vasudan ships to start looking like this. It's a perfect terran fighter if you tex it like one but it just is NOT vasudan the way it is.
-
it needs more gooey.
-
The general style could be Vasudan, but DC's right, it needs rounding and a bit of rework.
