ohh believe me, ship control + flight fun = unrivaled in FS2.

Never seen any other space game with a flight feeling like this.

uhm, what is exactly in the package?

(manual, nice cd-case covers, extra's different from what was already available on HOTU/VWBB/Here.)

I got no. 40 of 2000. And it says on the box "Includes over 20 additional missions" WOOT! Dunno if they're mission from FSO or what tho. I gonna install it in a couple mins here and poot around a few mins before I begin in earnest with the FSO install. I hope I get all the latest versions right, as per the sticky thread/WIKI page so I don't get all hosed up. Anyway-

Here's what it came with- 3 CDs in paper covers, full-size 76 page B/W manual, 3 section foldout B/W keyboard reference chart, and other vital... juices that I found out later came from me when I opened the box.

OK- I go install now! Talk to yoos later woot!

Tell, us what the 20 extra missions are when you get to them =)

I hate to be a spoilsport, but those "extra missions" are merely the standalone single and multiplayer missions included with the Sci-Fi Sim of the Year Edition (sometimes referred to as the "X" missions).  Interplay's blurb at their online store states that this is just a re-release of the SFSOTY.

Yep, nothing new, just installed. Only thing that's new is no cardboard CD sleave, and a little bit of differentation on the CD art.

Ahhh I see. Well I just completed the first mission and am sure loving this game already. I set it to very easy for awhile to get the hang of it without getting clobbered too badly heh. But dig- I DON'T EVEN NEED MY SAITEK PROFILER TO USE ALL THE STUFF ON MY X45 RIG YAAAAY! I found I was able to setup -everything- on it within the game. WOW! Rotaries, throttle, all hats and buttons. WOOT! Heh. Well, I dunno about the mode switch and auxilary, havent tried them yet. But if it's more stable and use less memory, I'll settle for in-game config and keyboard augment. If I can just remember it all now, the x45 settings. I wish I could print the settings out, or at least take a screenshot of them. Can I do screenshots? But I think I got a handle on it all, and will do better as I use them more. I did try to view the pilot file in notepad but its binary and dont show me anything.

Yes, you can take screenshots :p I believe it's the Print Screen key.

Oh. Haha.  Sometimes the most obvious solution actually works huh? Got a solution just as easy to print out all the control configs? And stop laffing.

LOL ur so sillay. I only had it less than a day and had to sleep right after it got delivered, then i RTFM and setup my controls awhile, so only played the first few missions so far. I just now found, BTW, a walkthrough on gamespot that has all the controls in a text file, so I can print it out and pencil in my X45 HOTAS additions for reference in game. Stop laffing! Ok I go play now. Or mebbe go ahead with the FSO procedures, if I can do it without hosing the whole game. I not real big on the hoop-jumping and tweedling anymore nowadays.

silly question, but if we hope to get a FS3, looks around for karajorma :nervous:, shouldn't we hope that people are getting copies with numbers much higher that 53?

Well, we at this community tried to buy them as quickly as possible. I ordered mine as soon as I got the money.

Don't worry red. I don't complain at any mention of FS3 as long as it isn't a question the FAQ answers (like When is FS3 out. Why aren't V making, Let's start a petition! etc.)

seems like anyone of us registered here can get a copy.

And a good $1.000.000 mil goes to Interplay for all the good they did for us...

Well, the only thing I can't blame them for is that they released SFC, SFC2, SFC2:OP,Freespace and Freespace 2.
--> At least I am willing to give them that much.

It just pains me that it was announced as #3 single-player game of all time, 5 years after it was launched.

Should Interplay have put all its Marketing Clout behind it rather than say... Giants, well, we would at least have a vol. 3 to ***** about....

Damn...

I think the HOTU sound files were reduced in quality to save space.

I have the same problem, except I need to get it to Norway.
I was so happy when I realized Interplay was re-releasing FS2 and when I realized they didn't ship outside US, Canada, I wanted to go on a killing spree :)

I can send ya a BURNED copy Mr. Pyro-Maniac. That is basically what I have... a burned copy of Freespace 2 and all 3 of its disks. I looked on all sorts of stores, no one had it, so Cpt. Ryan just burned it off for me. I can do the same for you, if you would like...

FS2 is abandonware...

Given how disgustingly easy it is to find a legit copy for sale (http://www.interplay.com/games/product.asp?gameid=540), it's really not abandonware.

Teh Ultimate Meh:

I have the original, not the special version. But it doesnt ship outside of US/Canada, and I'm not going to buy a version of Freespace from Interplay (the bastards) and then ship it off to someone. What is the best solution?

Just give em what you got.

hey, read the bloody EULA, you're allowed to make perfect copy's for your friends/relatives, IIRC, AFAIK.

They won't even ship to the UK? Damn, then, Australia has no hope. :p

One of you lot, check if the EULA agreement still applies to the re-release, then send over a copy to Zuljin, pyro and I. :D

Put me on that little list too, will ya?

seriously, if one guy sends me a full copy, i'll probably be willing to send anyone a copy if they send me a self adressed envelope.

shipping from holland ain't cheap, though.
