Title: Sketch-o-rama
Post by: Rictor on February 26, 2004, 05:37:19 pm
So, I'm doing my college applications and they say they wan't a sketchbook. Trouble is, though I'm always drawing stuff, its never in a sketchbook. Its always on schoolbooks and such. So I sat down yesterday and came up with this, just so I'de have something to show. I'm particularly proud of the first one.

Original image here. Pretty close if you ask me. (http://www.joemadfan.com/french/frenchbc0.jpg)

This is from the cover of the Battlechasers trade paperback. I love Joe Mad's artwork, and this is a really cool piece, so I drew it. In te picture is Gully, wearing her father's gloves (which give her enormous strenght).

Another one from Battlechasers. This time its Garrison. The reason the face is not finished if because after several tried (you can see the erase marks) I just decided that it was better to leave it empty than to draw it badly.

This one is mine :D:D I have no idea how I thought it up. I just started drawing a guy and it sort of evolved into this. Don't ask about the kilt. I just thought drawing pants would be too normal, so there you go. Any likeness to a skinhead is purely incidental.

_____

Those are just the 3 good ones. I have a whole bunch of smaller, quicker skecthes.

Heh. I love Joe Madureira's work too, but that's just because he draws chicks like no one else. :D

Hey, I like your first one too. Are you going to go into colouring too, or are you mono pencil/ink only? It's really looking excellent. :)

Check my post, I coloured it.

Only rough and flat shaded...for now.

Oh, fantastic! (That wasn't there before, was it? I'm sure it wasn't there before.)

Nope, I just uploaded it like 10 minutes go.

Thanks for the praise. I'll probably be doing so more in the next week or so, since I have another interview scheduled and like drawing.

That's awesome - I wish there was wider opportunity for that sort of thing over here. What's the name of the college you're trying for?

True dat. I prefer his non-exageratted proportions to say, Monika. It just looks more realistic..

I'm applying to graphic design courses at 3 colleges. The two "serious" ones I'm trying for are Sheridan College (renowned for animation and 3D) and Humber College which has a good web design course from what I know. The fallback is Centenial (sp?) College, which is in case the other two don't accept me :D:D

Great improvement, the depth in the costume is now much more visible. :)

Leprechaun with gloves-o-doom, and matching boots. I dunno...

Is well-drawn, though.

I dunno, I really like the concept of it. Its so much of a contrast. At one poiint, this huge demon rams straight at her, and you have a picture reminiscent of a freight train being stopped by dwarf, complete with sliding backwards effect.

One of these days I'll learn to colour. What the pros do, its just awesome. Digital painting is totally amazing and inexplicable to me.

Looks cool :)
That reminds me of when I got to the interview for my art school, they wanted sketbooks too, plus crappy pics, you know, paintings of apples, bannanas, stuff like that ( don't know the english name, I dubt that's "dead nature"? :p ). COuldn't bother, brought all my agendas, sheets of papers ( yeah, even from exams :p ), stuff like that. The dude loved that, got me in :)

Maybe I ought to do that. Slap down a big box of all my school papers in front of him. But luckily, Sheridan College, with which I have an interview on Tuesday, didn't ask for a skecthbook. I'll still bring some stuff along though.

And its called Still Life I think. Its also "dead nature" in my language.

That said, it worked for me, but there's no garantee it'll work for you. That's what I did, I refuse to take responsability or accept any grudge if you do the same and end up being refused because of that :p

Nah, I won't do it. Partly because all my stuff is now in storage. But its mostly pretty bad, stuff I wouldn't want to show unless they explicitly said they wanted to see that kind of stuff.

I just said "stuff" three times.
Four times.
