This is my first post on the forums here...I haven't posted in a Freespace related forum since the days of the VBB. But anyways, I thought I'd let everyone know that Firingsquad.com has given Freespace 2 the award as the 3rd best singleplayer game of all time. You can check the story out here:
Freespace 2 is #3 (http://www.firingsquad.com/games/top_10_2004/page8.asp)
I haven't seen this up on HLP or VW yet, so I figured I'd get the word out. Seems like there's more FS2 buzz now than there has been in quite a while... :)

:welcome:
Welcome to the boards....Much more to say, but I'm not the one to say it. There will not be a freespace 3, just thought I tell you before the HLP PYROS flamed somebody;)
-
Yeah, I know just as well as anyone else that there will be no Freespace 3. But it's nice to see FS2 getting some of the recognition it deserves...
-
Have a look in the Source Code Project forums. ;)

#3 behind Civilization and Simcity
were in good company

Cool Review

Hey, thanks for that jbond04, that's going in the news. And welcome to HLP... indeed, have a look at the SCP forum if you still love the game. ;)
:welcome:

I agree!
Check sig!
-
Uh....that sig is a weee bit WAY TOO FREAKING LONG! lol ;)
-
We really need
A) sig length restrictions
B) image size (zzz x yyy) restrictions (breaking the tables gets a bit irritating)
-
Uhhh...how about no?
There's already a no-sig-images rule in effect, and the sig length....that's enforced by the admins already (for the most part), and the users themselves.
-
OK then.
-
As for B), that's enforced by admins too with the lvlshot tag. However, an absolute size restriction would NOT be good, since the tables are defined on window width and what's too wide for you may not be too wide for me.
-
On other related news, I shortened my sig, but unfortunately the message of this thread was lost.
Freespace is n03 single gamer in a respected site like Firingsquad is, and that (if anything else), is here to stay.
Remember way back then when HLP had 700 users, and EVERYONE and their grandmother talked about how Freespace would die, and what would replace it.
My sig, (even if lowered), just stands for the opposite.
This thread stands for the opposite.
Hell, this site stands for the opposite.
THAT is what I wanted to say.

You may eat these words, rumor is FS2 is being remade, possibly FS3?
Remember Interplay owns the rights to FS2 name, they can redo a new engine and release FS3, which they seem to be planning asince their are no good space sims about i think interplay is planning a takeover.
It is just a rumor mind you, but the recent release of Freespace 20th anniversary edition should say something for the franchise and is only a glimpse into what they may have planned with the FS series. Of course if volition doesnt make it it wont be the same, but it will still be FS.
-
I really think that was simply to remove the "abandonware" state of Freespace 2 rather than to generate a new fanbase. There wasn't enough publicity surrounding the release for it to be anything else. I'd love to see something else done, but I don't know if the signs point in that direction. The nature of the contract with :V: still stands as far as I know.
-
it is unfortunate to see this franchise locked down by a publisher that can't afford to develop the games, but we hope that Interplay can rebound from its current troubles.
uhhh...yeah. that's why there isn't a fs3
-
Apparetly there are rumours afloat the rights no longer belong to interplay, but thats just what they could be, rumours.
Anway with interplay going down the pan, they might lose the rights anyway, either by disbanding the company or selling them off. Maybe the 20th anniversary edition was just a last ditch effort to at least make some cash to keep them afloat.
-
Or it could be that they had 2000 copies of Freespace Special Edition sitting around and nothing to do with them, and selling them off for a bloody fortune seemed like the best option ;)
Either way, maybe we will see it, maybe we won't but I don't personally see Interplay deliberately keeping the development of such a game from the public, in fact, they would want to generate public interest more than ever now.
-
nice review that one

Hardly a fortune... thats only $100,000 at $50 a copy. Which is enough to pay for 3 years from an employee at a really crappy salary. My brother gets $100,000 a year from cisco, including all the bonuses they are getting.
-
True, but it's $100,0300 more than I've got ;)
