Hostile waters, only £2 too, it's a great little game, can't believe I missed this when it first came out.
-
Good man.
It, in a word, pwns.

It's an orgyastic combination of two of the finest games (Carrier Command and Battlezone) in existence with superb voice acting and a great story, it obviously was never meant to do well.
-
Does it have mod capabilities and a community?
I won't buy it otherwise :D
-
You'll be lucky.
Haven't found any fansites for it, or any editing tools at all.
I'm blaming inflation.
-
I'm blaming lack of multiplayer, the one fatal stroke to a game that would otherwise have been cult.
-
Yeah. Multiplayer would have made that game amazing :D But the game is still pretty incredible without it
UT: If you don't want to play it unless you can mod it then you are missing out on one of the best games of the genre.
Why was it so hard to find 01010? It was released on budget for a tenner a few months back. I've seen it in shops all over the high street.
-
Aye, it's out on budget, and you can find second hand versions of the original fairly easily in GameStation.
-
Care to find me one 'a those? ;7
They sure as **** don't sell 'em here.

-
So then. Those of you who've played it, who's your favourite character?
-
My name is Ransom :D
Although Patton is quite cool too
-
I'll have to agree. Ransom pwns
-
I wish we got a bit more of Elroy and Kenzie though.

Having got amazingly drunk tonight I think I may have tomorrow off work, not that I'm particularly fussed about that, but if that is the case I'll try to pick up the other copy that was there and sort you out with it. I'll let you know tomorrow.
Karajorma: Unfortunately I live in a town that is completely assbackwards. It's a 30 minute train ride from Birmingham, large enough to be conisdered a small city and yet doesn't have a single CD shop other than a ****ing Woolworths and the games shops up until 6 months ago consisted of a half assed Game half the size of a public lavatory and an independent shop that was still selling the ORIGINAL Carmageddon full price.
And yes Ransom owns. "A pilot just drops out of the sky".
-
Um, never mind. I just got the Amazon one, think it was a bit less, actually. Particularly considering shipping and all.
-
I'd have paid everything I don't mind.
-
It's a great game :) You'll enjoy it in the later missions when ...[CENSORED BY THE MINISTRY OF NOT SPOILING OTHER PEOPLES FUN]...
-
It's getting interesting now, I think the plot is pretty cool too.
-
How far have you gotten?
-
Just rescued the first scientist and destroyed the two cargo ships, not an easy game by any means is it? Lots of tactical thinking required, I like it.
-
Once you've completed it, try it again with the cheat that makes all the Cabal forces speak like scousers. :p

Hehehe - nahh, it hasn't gotten interesting yet. :p
Dang, I loved that game. Just played through it for the first time a few months ago... sooo sweet. ;D
-
isn't it just a shoot?
-
No, RTS :) And a damn good one from what I hear. But no multiplayer and/or mod capability---I'm not gonna buy it. I want some replay value other than going thru the main game again :)
-
It's not an RTS UT. It is in the same genre as Battlezone and Carrier Command (the game it most closely resembles).
The game gives you an aircraft carrier and troops who (mostly) follow your orders. You give them an objective and they go off and try to carry it out. At any point you can leap in and take over any particular vehicle and fight with it yourself but the computer players generally do a pretty good job on their own (In fact Patton is so good with the tank I rarely take over except to drive him to the next battle :D ).
Basically imagine an RTS seen through the eyes of the combatants where you can take over any tank and play as a shooter.
-
I believe Action Strategy would be the correct term.
-
Not to mention the dulcet tones of Tom Baker and the guy who played Avon from Blakes 7, two British Sci-Fi series' , one of which was one of the best sci-fi ideas ever created, the other one was about time travel ;)

Actually it isn't a strategy game at all - it's a tactical one. First Person Tactical is how I'd nail it. ;)
Outstanding game nonetheless - fully worth the retail price for the single-player campaign (which is all it has).
-
Is there a demo out? Now I'm curious. :)
-
01010: Thanks, but it's cheap enough as it is.
And I wanna play now... dammit, how did people ever survive when parcel mail was the only way of communicating???

Hell.. I'll take it if he wont...

I've never tried the demo so I can't say how close it is to the finished product but you can find it here (http://www.gamershell.com/download_5115.shtml)

I tried the demo, and although I don't remember what it was like after having played through the full campaign, I do remember that the demo made me add Hostile Waters to my "Must Get" list pretty much instantly. ;)
Oh, and you don't even get the slightest smidgens of a hint as to the full storyline from the demo. :D
