Hey, does anyone know of something that will allow a person to join mid campaign in a multiplayer campaign?
I didn't know if FS2 Open would do that or not.
-
Hmm, well my forays into multiplayer have lasted in total about 30 seconds (an FS frenzy, many years ago... on my 28.8 modem, I was slaughtered), so I'm not much of an expert in this area. But maybe someone else can help. *bump* Anyone?
-
multiplayer is Kazans work, but they're in a code freeze right now, meaning no new features will be commited to the code.
-
From everything I've heard it can't be done in the retail version.
Kazan's new netcode will allow it for FS2_Open though.
-
So from the wording of your replies, I take it that feature hasn't been implemented yet?
The reason I ask is that we were playing a LAN yesterday, and Mr. Overclocker had set his computer's speed just a bit high, which kept causing him to get kicked out to the desktop, so if we wanted him back in, we had to start over from the beginning. Now, I like the first couple missions in Freespace 2 just as much as anybody, but I like the later ones much better.

Cut apart the campaign file.
You can easily cut it into two or three mission chunks using this (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/freespace/gameplay.html) guide to when weapons are allowed if you have only a small amount of FRED experience.
If you don't know how. Post again and I'll talk you through how to do it as long as you post the cut up files for us :D
-
Yeah, it seems that's what we're going to have to do. And I have enough FRED experience to know how to do that. YAY! more work...
So if y'all want the main FS2 campaign in Multiplayer, I'll be more than happy to post them when I'm done.

Depends on how you're doing it Al. If you're using that tip to make a mission multiplayer & singleplayer at the same time then the edits you make to the campaign file will have other uses.
I see posts all the time from people who've had a crash and want to replay the campaign from mission x rather than having to start again. :)
