Title: 3d graphing utility

I'm looking for a 3d graphing utility so i can visualize surfaces in 3-space without having to guess what the shape of some equation looks like.  does anybody have any good links?  its got to be free though

What, like a formula modeller? I know RDS had one, and I'll bet POVray does too.

Gnuplot does that, but it's hard to use.

IIRC there's a couple free ones written in Java... um... Or was it Jython? I Can't remember...
