Ok, I'm having some troubles with getting the sky box to work...
Ok I've been trying to get the StarTreks Earth and mars box's to work.
iv got his pofs in the model dir.
the and the 2 maps for each in maps dir, both are dds format. 1 being a '-shine'
and are trying to use his missions.
As for SCP I'm using the latest release available on the site, along with launcher 4. and the medias etc.
Now when I go into his missions, the background is grey.
And when I just make a test mission of my own, by just enetering the EarthBox.pof in the field, it crashes while loading, displaying an invisible error dialog (behind fs2 interface) so I hit esc and I'm back to the desktop...
So whats the problem?
Im running 1.8Ghz, 768mb DDR RAM @ 266, and a GF4 MX440 64mb.
Help would be appreciated. :)

This feature was implemented after 3.5.5, which is what it sounds like you have. I would recommend picking up the latest builds from the forum here instead.

ah k, yeh it is 3.5.5, but it did say 'latest release' so thought it was a typo in the wiki...

btw, where can i find a 3.5.6? The 'latest scp builds' thread doesnt seem to have the latests...

356 doesn't exist.
due to some bug hunting, and a lot of builds required for that, we started dating instead of naming
you'll need 20_01_04r (or whatever date format it is in)

yup ok, wiki's been updated since last night.
So I've now got 01_20_2004_fs2_open_r.exe along with _d... i presume r is the latest?
Oh and, 01_20_2004_fred2_open_r.exe should be the OpenGL ver?

R is the release version
D is the debug version
Use the r version unless you know why you would use the d version. :D

ok, still having probs.
while performance is up, grey background remains. im thinking it might have something todo with the dds format?

does the dds look like anything other then gray in a image editor?

no, i just checked. it has the pic with 7 levels of detail in total. mipmaps?
hmm... why me? :(

WHOA!!! I see what your talking about. I switched over to your build and get the same results!!! I'm investigating the matter. It works fine with Bobboau's test build and environment map build though. I'll get back to ya.

Its not a DDS issue, I get same results with TGA's

I solved the issue for my computer. I found that it requires the
"-htl" flag to be checked. You have Geforce4MX so it should work, even though MX's don't really use HTL
I guess skyboxes get glitchy without HTL. Can anyone else confirm this. I'm assuming either everyone uses HTL, uses Bobboau's latest builds, OR not many folks is trying out my skyboxes and other stuff.

yeh, ok i dont have that option, just "-nohtl" which is off. Im using launcher 4. and when i put -htl in, it says its an unreconised command.
im now using the newer version from the new thread the in recent builds section. its not grey anymore its just all black lol...
whats the list of all the command lines I should be using to get best results from SCP? Or just the list you use...?

oh crap
use -jpgtga , otherwise only pcx will work
/me slaps himself on the head.
for the rest, -fov 0.39 makes it all look better scaled
-spec and -glow are good too, and -allslev makes you able to select all campaign missions from the techroom, even with a brand new pilot.

ok I just tried it with Nukes or Nicos (cant member which :p)skybox1 and it uses jpg's. And it worked :).
OMG to the performance hit tho, putting me down to a max of 4fps :o , but I'm gonna see if turning mipmaps off helps... :D
so it seems dds dont like me...? is there another command line i need for that? i dont remember finding that in the wiki...?

EDIT: yup, ok with mipmaps off, it works nice and smooth. Beutifull... :D
So dds doesnt seem to work or the skyboxes I got from Omni were buggy... maybe my vid card dont support dds? or the size their in? time for an upgrade anyway... :)
All I need to figure out now is how to make one myself that looks good... :D
Oh and there's also a bug where when I warp out, the ship flys through the warp field and stays visible... so I don't know whats up with that... thats using the 03_05_2004.zip release

Ya, that's an HTL issue with certain cards. I've got a GF2MX and it happens with mine (usually) and a friend of mine had a GF4MX and it happenned on his machine too. He's got a Radeon 9600Pro now, but I forget if it happens or not with that. Its something about a buffer type that said nVidia cards don't have that's causing that.

Sorry, to bring this old thread back up, but I ran into exactly the same problem with Omnis Earth/Mars skyboxes, so I thought I could bump this as good as making a new thread.
So, was a solution found for this ?
I tried both Bobs and Kazans builds from the "Recent SCP Builds" forum, all-grey with both of them. I have a GF Ti4200, so DDS shouldn't be a problem....:confused:
Or has someone got the maps in tga or jpg format ?

I seem to be having the same problems with the latest build. I converted the DDS textures to TGA and JPG with the same results.
This is how I made the Skybox:
In Truespace, I made a simple cube and a flat plane with the earth or mars textures on it, within the cube. The cube itself got no t textures. Thats all. IS there a CORRECT way of building one?
It works fine with the 3/05/04 build I believe.

Oh! That's probably why! The gray is the cube! Try putting any old texture on the cube, and then in PCS, or modelview, rename that texture to invisible.
