The help first: I have truespace, and a pof2cob program, yet i can't find a way to open the model (in cob, pof, or any other form) in 3dsmax 6...
The render:
Ok, this is a really bad first time render... My first one that wasn't a composite in fred, or a screwed up screenshot...
Ready?
Still ready?

BITMAP BAD
Even if it is linked.
A max quality JPEG will get similar results at a smaller file size.

it was at max quality... i'll check though...
EDIT: Jpg updated, and more smoothing, and it seems to help on a hard drive, but can't tell about internet quality yet... perhaps a gif later...

and what is included in "any other form"?
both programs can open .dxf format, which is what i use when going between them.

I think you need to work a bit on your concept of "render", expecially since in MAX 6 all three objects in there are preset shapes. At least try giving them preset textures or something.
And yes, DXF works quite well. You'll lose the textures, but it's basically the only format where the geometry you see in one program will be almost exactly the same as in every other (something that, say, 3ds format fails utterly at).
-
Or go to the reci site and look for the 3dex proggy aldo has there. Use it to convert the textured cobs to 3ds, and delete the LODs while your at it.
-
um, yeah... what's the point of this picture, sorry?
textures _would_ be nice... so would a background, incidentally, although of course that would involve more work... looks a bit like a stage set for an absurdist play.

Agreed on the absurdist.
But I dunno, I quite like the simple abstraction. I love doing renders like that every now and then, just to free my mind from the narrow straights that FS rendering can become. :)
