Hail all,
Got a bit of a problem that I've only just noticed. Any program I set to load on startup will load twice. This means both Rainlander and Objectdock load twice (screwing up Objectdock since it doesn't know what version is activated).
I've checked the startup folder (duh) to see if two shortcuts to the programs existed but there is only one of each kind. In theory the program should load once only.
As such I'm actually at a loss as to why they would load twice. If anyone knows how to ensure only one copy of any program loads on startup - I'd be most greatful. Thanks...:)

XP is loading them, then they're booting themselves? Dunno, try turning autoload off, see if that gets you somewhere.

'fraid that's not it. Unchecking the "load on startup" option for Objectdock removes the link in the startup folder. Manually replacing the link in the startup folder rechecks the "load on startup" option in Objectdock. They detect eachother.
As for Rainlander.. that has no load on startup option. It relies on the link, and there's only one link.

And this applies to all the programs that load on startup, or just those two?

Go into regedit and see if any entries under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run appear twice, and delete the duplicates. I remember this happening to me once with different programs.

If that doesn't work try checking that
C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
and
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
don't contain duplicates.

SadisticSid, sorry mate, only one registry entry in that location and there's nothing about Objectdock or Rainlander in there.
Karajorma, no luck either.. all my startup entries are in All Users...

Sometimes you get a memory skip, too, during bootup. 'S caused by electromagnetic interference with the system, sometimes EM waves start bouncing around in there and when they hit a conductive object (like, say, the copper strips on your motherboard) they produce a tiny electrical charge, which the central processor can take as an error, leading it to reload things. Given the regularity of the problem and the likelihood you're computer's shielded, the emitter is probably internal- the most likely suspects being your hard drives, which are highly active during startup. In recent years computer companies have gotten lazy about this sort of thing and taken to leaving hard disks open to electromagnetic leakage. The most permanent solution to the problem is to block the EM field the hard disk produces by setting up an ionised field around the device that will absorb and counteract the offending magnetism. Basically, charge the thing. And the best way of charging a disk short of doing something stupid like connecting it directly to a wall socket is to hit it with radio waves of a certain frequency. You ever seen a metal fork spark in a microwave? That's because it's inducing a charge, which the fork, being an inert object unlike most electronics, does not retain but instead releases into the environment (rather damagingly to the microwave). So ... just do the same thing. Let me know what happens.

Eugh.. this is getting irritating. an0n your solution showed me the issue as shown below.
However unchecking one set of the programs entirely removes them and unchecks the other set as well - so the programs don't load at all. Rechecking one set brings back the other and they are also checked - and so the program loads twice.
Grr.

Stop logging in.
It's loading them both because it loads the Common ones, then the user-specific ones.
