Title: Multiplayer Missions
Post by: Lightspeed on March 12, 2004, 05:13:42 am
With the recent multiplayer testing builds, I thought it would be about time to post about the almighty FREDzone mission packs. They're a must for the "most fun" multiplayer experiences.

The first two mission packs that even were validated by Volition: Valid_Missions (http://165thbdhr.com/html/download.asp?url=../files/fs2m/valid_missions.zip)

Third FREDzone pack (complete, but the V-Gods don't want to *waste* time with validation any longer): 3rd FREDzone pack (http://165thbdhr.com/html/download.asp?url=../files/fs2m/fzp3.zip)

Could these missions be validated for FS2open?

For voice files and additional information, please visit the BDHR homepage at http://165thbdhr.com/

I will validate the 1st two now

those were passed through rigourous testing right? (so i know if i really have to test the 3rd ones)

They're all fully tested.

The third pack only wasnt validated because V couldn't be bothered to anymore.

Those missions are 1+ year old.

And they would still be FREDding if V would have given a damn about the 3rd pack.

Well, I've added the validated missions to my server.  I'll add the 3rd pack when Kazan validates that too. =)

And btw, the standalone server seems to crash really easily =(

Typing in messages in the God Mode is very _interesting_ since it posts bits and pieces of the previous lines at the end of each new message.

The standalone server has NEVER been particularly stable ;)

And they may start again now that we can validate missions :D

From what I understood Lightspeed is correct that the 3rd mission pack is completely tested and was only awaiting validation from [V].

Lonestar and me worked on the first 2 packages while we were running FREDZone. Lone and Cetanu (of BDHR fame) worked on the third package of missions (I was too busy at law school to stay with FREDZone by this time).

We didn't design the missions, obviously; other people came up with mission ideas and used FRED to make the preliminary designs. We just playtested the crap out of them and made improvements wherever we could before submitting them for validation.

There were a few missions that got validated before FREDZone existed, much to my chagrin. (God, Cold Sword ALONE would have gone through so many changes if had gotten my hands on it before it was validated...) :wtf:

Man, I havent talked to Cet in YEARS. I wonder what he's up to?

hmm...maybe go hunt him down? :D

Im thinking of FREDding a few missions - one in particular where you play a TvT, choosing sides of whether playing as the GTVA or the NTF. :D

I spotted Cet in the Campaign forum a couple of weeks ago, IIRC.

Well, theres no reason why, once this has grown a bit, we can't start doing some specialised SCP MP missions as well, such as asteroid combat with asteroids with caves and tunnels etc, not to mention some games that don't involve blowing stuff up...
I seem to recall the idea of Kinetic Weapon football where each team was only allowed kinetic weapons, and had to push a 'football' into the opposite teams subspace node to score. Something like that could be great fun as a 5 a side ;)

Of course, this is all for later, once MOD support etc is sorted out, but the potential......

You know, if we add Bobboau's trail code into the mix and find a way to "catch" the ball, we could have the funky game they played in Stellvia =O

If we could find a way to catch the ball, you could have the ultimate 'Capture the Flag' this would be fun especially if the 'flag' is in the landing bay of a Lucifer or the like ;)

Missile launchers that TAG a player once they get closer? With a long tag time, the player could essentially be 'flagged' so to speak, till he was destroyed or 'de-tagged' by his team-mates or enemies. Sexps can be used to make sure that the missile launcher doesnt fire another tag till the previous player is destroyed.

too bloody complicated.

just make a round cargo container of convenient size, and two "goals". no limits on weaponry, but when the enemy team scores a goal, everyone on the other side dies.

Well, with the new variable handling Sexp's from the SCP, it should just be possible to keep score and end the game when one team has scored 5 goals, the football game could almost be done in Vanilla FS2, but you'd need some nice animated glow maps on the ball etc for it to look 'right' in my opinion.
The CTF thing would probably require some specific coding, which may or may not be possible, once the SCP guys are a bit less busy bug squashing, I'll put a query in the SCP forum, though I have a feeling this would be pretty tough to do since FS2 wasn't designed to handle this in any way, possibly something like 'instadock' when you are less then 5 metres from the ball or something?
