I went and modified a vasudan support ship, retextured it and turned it into a fighter craft, provided all the animations and hud stuff it needed and stuffed them into a VP file which I placed in the main FS2 directory. Then I created a table file and placed it in the data/tables directory and replaced the GTF Hercules with my own ship, the GTF Calypso. But when I run little mission I created to test it out, my new ship isn't available to be used, but the Hercules is still there. Why isn't it replacing it? Where did I go wrong?

Is your table file in the VP itself? If so, what is the VP name - VP's are accessed alphabetically, so if you have a VP later in the alphabet it'll be overriden by the one before.
-
The ships.tbl file is in the data/tables directory, outside the VP. Only the textures and model and things needed to put the ship together are in the VP.
-
hmm.... so nothing is showing up in the game? i.e. no model ingame or anything?
-
The ship doesn't exist in the ship selection screen. Its still the same old Hercules...
-
Ingame or in Fred? i.e. is it just not showing in the ship /. loadout slection screen - suggesting a problem with the interface stuff - or is the model not actually being found atall?
-
It just plain doesn't show up anywhere. Not in FRED, not in the tech database, not in the ship selection screen, not in the game. All I can figure is that the ships.tbl file isn't being used at all, but I don't know why.
-
Are you sure it was saved as a .tbl file? It may have been resaved as an rtf, or a txt...
-
Yes, its a .tbl file. And it opens just fine in TBLVIW32, so its not in a bad format.
-
do you have any tables in the /data or in the freespace main dir?
-
Yeah, that was the problem. Just don't ask me how it got there...

this sound sort of like my old GTVF Mercury.
