Everything forward of the Access Tubes is one big detatchable cargo-pod. And it's 'official' class is a mega-freighter.
I was gonna make a start on my God Ship, but thought it best to sharpen my admittedly blunt skills before I tried that. So I'm building up the support fleet with freighters, transports and cruisers so I don't make a completely crappy job of the big *****.
Anyway, whaddaya think of it for the basic shape and such?
-
I'm more for lenghty designs than wide ones, but that's just taste. For now, it's difficult to say anything, to be honest, unless that's the final version?
-
Dear God, no. I'm not that bad........At least, I hope I'm not.
This is just a "Whee, look at the layout" kinda thing.
And I might demote it from a Mega-Freighter to some kind of cap-ship resupply workbee thingy. Just hanging around to move the pods into their bays on bigger ships.
Anyway...........

*Cough* Good guy Carrier from HW: Cataclysm *Cough*
...it looks good!
-
An0n, you said the front half is a single removable unit. Could the units be lined up back to back so that there are like six or seven of them? That'd certainly qualify as a 'mega freighter'.

Which one?:

And I'm completely redoing the actual freighter bit because, as I always do, a few hours after stopping work I've decided it looks ghey and needs changing.

I like the one on the left
-
I like the one on the left the most, but the one on the right looks the most original.
-
I prefer the one on the left too. The one on the right is pretty groovy, but, resembles and idea of mine, so you can't use it. ;)
Truthfully though, my honest opinion is the one on the left is cooler.
-
Make two ships :p
-
the one on the right has more detail, but the one on the left just screams
"I AM A BIG ****ING MEGA FREGHTER!!!!! PHEAR MY CARGO HAULING CAPACITY"
-
yah id say left 1 too. :D
lol Bobboau.
Wonder what the scan time will be ? :p
-
Flat one? Ugh. Noncompact, looks undetailed, doesn't have the chunkitude a freighter should. Make the pods three times as thick as they are now and add a ****load of detail, or include a second tier of pods, then maybe.
-
Well, although the left one looks cooler the right one is far more functional in my books, after all, freighters are about hauling freight, and the right one looks like a big bastard freighter, whereas the left one looks like something from X2 ;)
-
The one on the left looks vaguely Star Wars like in its dimensions...the one on the right is more like a station from IWar2 on its side... I like both!
-
I like the one on the left. It just FEELS bigger. The other one doesn't give the impression of size....
Hm. That could apply to quite a few things.... :nervous:
-
I really like both of them.
I actually like the one on the right better. :nervous:
-
I've decided this one's a test-run.
I'l finish it, then once I'm sure I've got it looking how I want, I'll start over again to make the model more precise and less haphazard.
Anyway, small update:

sweet, but considering the size of the thing ( it's big, I suppose ), you'll want to scale the warning strips accordingly?
-
The way I figure it, the scale doesn't matter. I mean, if the thing is bigger, then you'd need bigger warnings to make sure people saw them. And all the atmospheric seals and door locking mechanics have to be kept somewhere so why not just paint that whole bit in warning stripes.
But I'll probably end up scaling it down anyway when I restart it with more detail.

Hey, and I've managed to finally get my soft-subspace onto a 3D cone without it ****ing up:
