Title: spyware issue......again
Post by: jdjtcagle on March 17, 2004, 05:50:40 pm
Ok this time I was watching comedy commercials from a site and then everything was fine. Now when I'm browsing the internet all of the sudden I start to hear those commercials again, no idea where they are coming from or what they want from me! and above that I can't get rid of them it happens every ****ing 30 or so minutes and I'm tired of it.  Since I love this place and somebody is always taking care of me I thought somebody would help??  Please help??
My spyware software is: Spy-Bot and Ad-aware and always finds at least thirty entries everytime I run it what Am I doing wrong or does somebody now another good Spyware killer?
thanks!!:sigh:

Look in Add/Remove for some form of ad software.  Beyond that you might reset your firewall and have it notify you when a program asks for access.

See I have a problem with spybot...
I told it to run automatically get rid and shut down
so I can't change the settings anymore because when I click it it cans, gets rid of them and then turns off.

You could always switch browsers, that's the quickest way to block spyware - 99.9% of which only works with IE.

You don't say? Maybe its time for Firefox to come to the rescue then. I've been having a few spyware/adware problems myself recently, and it might be a good opportunity to install Firefox.

If you don't know if you have one, then you don't have one I reccomend Zonealarm (http://www.zonelabs.com).

It's free, and works farely well, just deny access to anything you don't want to access.

to get rid of adware, i recommend one program.  it's ultimate:
 SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY

search for that.  it's one powerful *****.  it'll solve all your problems.  kind of like jack daniels.

KaZaA Lite has no spyware, and none of that "priveledge level" crap... on KaZaA lite you're always at 1000, no matter what.  pity KaZaA stopped supporting it, so you're going to have a hard time finding a working copy of it.  luckily for you, i have a copy, so send me a PM and i'll send it to you (or if anyone else wants it).  it's really badass.  Kazaa with no spyware.  how cool can it get?

anyway, it's late, time for bed.

  Our Father, who 0wnz heaven, j00 r0ck!
May all 0ur base someday be belong to you!
  May j00 0wn earth just like j00 0wn heaven.
Give us this day our warez, mp3z, and pr0n through a phat pipe.
And cut us some slack when we act like n00b lamerz, just as we teach n00bz when they act lame on us.
Please don't give us root access on some poor d00d'z box when we're too pissed off to think about what's
right and wrong, and if you could keep the fbi off our backs, we'd appreciate it.
  For j00 0wn r00t on all our b0x3s 4ever and ever, 4m3n.

hehe, i thought that was pretty tight, saw it on some forums a few minutes ago

get a firewall.

do you have ZoneAlarm installed? Who owns this PC? What OS?
if there is indeed no firewall, go to the ZA website and grab the freeware version.

Ugh no. After the last one of these topics I tried Gnucleus and I hated it.

Searching was far more complicated than kazaa lite since you have to mess around with filters to trim out filetypes you don't want. It found less versions of files I wanted than kazaa lite and then took longer to download them. On top of that it crashed on me 5-6 times where as kazaa lite has crashed on me less in the year or so I've been using it.

In the end I uninstalled it and went over to e-mule for large files and Kazaa lite for small ones.

I do use spybot search and destroy and ad-aware find more stuff than it does.

The XP firewall is pretty poor. ZA is pretty good though I recently read a review that said there are some better free ones available (although Zone Alarm Pro was still king of the personal firewalls)

When you install it, it will start asking you if program can have access to the internet.  Simply answer "Yes" for stuff like your Browser, Mail and FTP clients, and Online Games, and "No" for everything else.

Basically it stops trojans from connecting to the internet unless you say yes. That means that if a program suddenly starts asking for access when nothing should be you know it's time to run spybot and your virus checker.

That's happens all the time.  You only need to worry if you get a massive number of external access requests.
