I'm bored and full of roughly 300ml of Jack Daniels. But my spelling, punctuation and grammar are almost perfect. Yey me!
Anyway, I demand you 'people' partake in a discussion on the merits of various forms of alcohol.
Personally, I'd take Whiskey over anything, anyday. But I'm open to the odd pint of vodka or other extreme quantity of cold, hard liquor. And anything 'on the rocks' has no place outside a homosexual bar. As far as lagers and beers go, I'll take a John Smiths over a Stella, and a Guinness over a Fosters.
I'm a liquor and bitter man. (Anyone who can find an innuendo in that should be shot). And I despise any slack-jawed yokel who would defile the sanctity of a drinking establishment by asking for a curiously coloured 'alco-pop' or some fancy, umbrella-carrying cocktail which, IMHO, have no place in the world of a professional drinker.
Such 'fruity' people are worthy only of the fiercest hatred my semi-inebriated mind can muster.
What say you, forumites? Do ye bathe in the pool of brightly coloured, man-sex drinks; Or are ye a proud swimmer through the rough waters of the liquor sea?
-
Well, as I don't drink, it seems to make good fuel for drag racers.
-
A good Budweiser never hurts after work, IMO. Although I hate the sugary alcohol, wine-coolers make for a decient chaser when shooting the hard stuff.
Vodka and the lighter alcohols are my personal favorite, as burbon makes me tired and whiskey gives me horrible breath.
-
don't drink, this is what I'm like sober
IM INSAINE! :D

*breaks down and cries*
Fags. *sobs* You're all fags.

Jack Daniels is a man's drink
way to go

Why would he call us Frequetly Asked Questions?

oh hell yeah, there's nothing like a little alcohol (or a lot... usually a lot). a little jack daniels, jim bean, etc. never hurts. it's quite often after a long days work i'll come home late, and go through a few bud lights (i like lite beers). although last weekend me and two friends went through a bottle of Wild Turkey 101 in about 4 hours. i hate Wild Turkey since then, but its always good. i prefer hard liquor over light (beer, etc.) i never actually get drunk, i don't believe in getting drunk, but getting a buzz now and then is OK. another drink that's badass is Skyy vodka. i don't know if they have that over there in England, but it's awesome
hard licquor, that's what its all about. bourban, licquor, vodka, and all other hard

I'm in with a bunch of slushes.(http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/cwm/cwm/silly.gif)

you guys really should try authentic moonshine. im seriously thinking about setting up a still next to my computer. the strongest drink i ever had would have been a tripple shot of everclear. its like drinking jet fuel.
that said one shouldnt be too evasive of mixed drinks that actually taste good. i made some margaritas awhile back that were quite strong.
as for beers, we have our own local brewery here in ak, and they make a pretty good stout. and a beer after work always hits the spot.

Glen Morangie.
Alternatively JD if I feel like being boring.
EDIT:Neat, may I add.
-
I'm quite fond with whiskey today aswell. Scottish all the way though. Hmm... White Horse or Highland Bird are my favourites right now. They're not the most expencive ones at all but still good.
Other than that... well, a beer or two (or good cider) after a sauna is nice of course :)
-
I'm a whiskey man, myself. My girl too. When we go to clubs and get a table, that's the bottle of choice: usually either Johnny Walkers, Jack Daniels, or Dewers, depending on the price. I won't touch Buchanan, that's just cheap water.
Or if I'm at a business function (after hour drinks, business dinners) I'll do the gin and tonic. It's smooth (at least to me, although others say it's bitter...it is an acquired taste, though) and doesn't hit that hard.
For relaxation after work (and not wanting to get sloshed) I'll either have blush or white wine.
I won't touch beer as it produces a gut, but I will drink it when I'm eating at Hooters or whatever.
-
beer is terrible on my system, i go as drunk as from 2 glasses of wine from half a small bottle.
I like some white wines, but mostly either sherry or whisky. jenever goes quite well too, really. It's the Dutch variant of gin, but where gin tastes like some chemical mix of pure toxin, Jenever tastes more like a smooth whisky.
and the ****er who invented those sugary mix drinks should be executed by force-feeding him a few gallons of the stuff.
-
A topic I like, an0n... nice
I tend to have phases of drinks.. I just finished a beer phase which involves drinking as much of the cheapest stuff around (usually Fosters) to achieve drunkeness. This is good except it runs the risk of leading to depression (I think this is just something my body does out of protest.. but I don't drink to get depressed - I drink to have a laugh - so I have to play it carefully).
Anyway, if it's not beer - it's (most) kind of spirits - in particular Vodka or Whisky, straight or mixed with something (depending on what the point of drinking is.. if it's social drinking then I'll mix it. If it's to get drunk fast then it's shots).
I've not thrown up as a result of alcohol for four years now, although I have had some very nasty hangovers.. usually when mixing things.
Wine I tend to steer clear of - I just don't enjoy it that much. I never drink it to get drunk unless it's all there is around. But generally I don't enjoy it. It is nice with a meal however.
So basically - social drinks are mixed spirits, a couple of beers or a glass of wine.
Drinking to get drunk is larger quantities of spirits / beer but not wine.
Finally, on the subject of "strong stuff". I've got two bottles of Portugese fire water in my cupboard.. that stuff is about 60pc. I've also more or less finished a bottle of Absynthe (70pc) which is good for nothing but shots and for getting drunk / slightly drugged up (yes, I do feel the effects of the wormwood).
So... thats my alcohol story!
-
I'm quite fond of JD, but there's never any in the house, and I'm too idle (and underage, ahem) to buy it myself.
Beer I can't stand. Always tastes to me like someone's just belched in my face.
Brandy, however, is good stuff, and I was drinking it most of the day yesterday, due to the lack of whiskey I've already mentioned.
Tequila = pwnage.
-
I'm quite fond of vodka, and the various drinks you can make from it. especially white russians. as far as beer goes, I like staropramen. in fact it's the only I could drink without the purpose of getting drunk. so, what I have at home right now is: half a litre of 60% koskenkorva vodka, a bottle of kahlua (coffee liqueur to make black/white russians with), and some cheap beer I got from a cruise I went on. I need to get to the booze store and buy some staropramen and maybe a bottle of bols blue.
-
i forgot, when the purpose is just fun and not getting drunk, i like cider a lot, the lighter variants contain only 2 percent alcohol, and the heavier go up to about 8, so you can avoid getting drunk if you have to. I can't have any sugar, so white wine is not so smart most of the time, and all those mixes would probably give me a seizure or something.

I've seriously considered drinking before, I've often thought I might be missing out on something but then I talk to people that are miserable due to not being able to have fun without it and I hope never to have to be in that position.

The proper Czech Budweiser is infinitely superior, apparently.

i only drink once every two weeks, once every week max. it doesn't make me any more glad, but it can put some thoughts out of your mind, and put you to sleep quickly too. that, and it helps to heal throat infections :) but really, an average human needs to drink a lot, before he can go dependend. Also, thee addiction is most of the time related to the surroundings they associate with drinking.

THat's a widespread misconception. They're both crap.

Thats called alcoholism
They have a problem there..
I can have just as much fun with or without booze..
The trick is not to drink too much at once...
You drink the bottle/case slowly over the course of the night and you'll get good and drunk, but you wont get sick, and you'll probably enjoy yourself...
You down a 40 in the space of 10 minutes and you'll just be sick the rest of the night...
-
I drink about every weekend when I go out. And if I do, I usually don't drink the next day as my body just rejects the idea if getting trashed a second day. During the week I don't usually go out much so I don't drink the hard stuff, unless I'm at a happy hour. But I will have something like wine or whatnot if I've had a particularly hard day.
Do I need to drink to have fun? No, but when you're at a club or a bar the drinking (to me) kinda makes sense.
The problem with dependency is tolerance, mental issues, and physical will power. No one becomes an alcoholic overnight, unless there's a genetic proprensity for alcoholism due to your parents and grandparents being slushes. It happens as you build your tolerance. Consider this, when you first started drinking a beer or two would get you drunk (not included in this argument is the whole body-weight/metabolism factor). You keep on drinking and as months/years goes by it now takes you, say, 5 beers to do what those 2 did. More time passes and it takes you now 10. So you keep drinking more and more trying to get the same affect, meanwhile your body is getting accustomed to the alcohol in your system.
This doesn't make you an alcoholic, though, as this is a normal process. But add that to mental instability (in terms of needing alcohol to fill certain needs or anxieties), and the cocktail for an alchy is born.
-
I think this has been skewed a bit, when I was talking about dependency it was not alcoholism, I'm talking about the inability to have a good time without drink, it's like the possibility of fun is non existant without it.

I know what you mean there, earlier in the year we were going out almost every evening and drinking... after a while it started becomming apparent that it just wasn't fun unless I was pissed. I stopped drinking entirely soon after untill things evened back out - I hated the idea that I'd have to drink to enjoy myself, that's sad :doubt:
-
Baaaaaaaaad alchyhol.........
I was drinking for another hour or two (I think) after I posted this and got so drunk every time I closed my eyes the whole world started spinning. This, in turn, kicked in my motion sickness.
So I was up till 9am trying not to close my eyes lest I blow chunks.
See, this is why I stopped drinking the last time.
Though I'm not at all hung-over.
-
U know, I used to get bad hang overs when I was in my teens. If I got drunk the night before, the next day was an absolute nightmare. But now, the most I get is gassy (from drinking too much pepsi the next day) and really really impatient with people. I feel like driving nails in peoples eyes if they take too long to explain something or get to a point.
Last Wednesday I went to happy hour with my girl, her sisters (which one of them works at my job), and some people from work. What was supposed to be only a couple of hours or light drinking turned into a 6 hour event. Luckily I live walking distance from the bar. The next day I get to work and it seemed as if everyone got dumb overnight and suddenly didn't know how to do their jobs or explain themselves or take a message. I was about to kill.
-
I'll start off, by pissing of an0n and saying that few things suck more than liquor. One of them are the major part of coctails, if that makes you feel any better.
As far as drinking goes, i'm a few-beers-on-the-weekend kinda guy. I almost never drink vodka, since I see it as being sort lame get-drunk-quickly cheat. And getting drunk is almost never my primary purpose for drinking. And alchoholism runs in the family, so I try to refrain from drinking stronger stuff, rather much.
When I do, on special occasions, like birthdays, christmas and fridays ;) , there are few things that beat a good bottle of scotch. Whiskey, cognac and Jägermeister (where does that thing classify anyway) are all excellent. Oh, and the exception for drinking vodka goes to palinka (hungarian fruit - mostly pear - vodka)
Cider is for girls and pussies.
-
I drink after work some good wine,in work meetings some wine if they give and when there si aprty somewhere i drink wine mostly and Tequila, Whiskey
when I was young I drinked more than now.
:)
-
I used o like all the strong stuff, like vodka and whiskey, but I've grown both tired of them and unable to take what I used to be able to take. So now I stick with desperado.
-
I'm going through a stupid cocktail phase at the mo.
Usually Beer and shots otherwise.
Gettin' pissed up with ypur mates is a laugh though.
-
The reason why liquor is better than booze is because it doesn't have the side-effects.
All the crap they pump into lager to make it brown is what gives you hang-overs.
And then there's the things like it doesn't leave you feeling bloated or (as is the case with Guinness) make you pebble-dash the toilet the next day.
-
****ing whiskey all the way, the ultimate party drink.
-
Strangely enough, I used to drink 8 pints of Cider 4 nights a week. Now I am teetotal, no real cause, just sort of got bored with alcohol :)
-
Me and my mates tend to get drunk every friday at one of our houses. Tends to be kronenburg we drink, which works i suppose.
-
I drink beer and Wiskkey and sometimes vodka.
i avoid **** like dropshot or goldstrike thats the stuff i get hangovers from.
-
Old No. 7 all the way. Although yesterday being St Paddy's, I discovered the merits of Jamesons

One of this day, you, me, the location you decide and as much desperado as we can handle.
(As soon as I find a job, that is... :ick: )
Advantage of this beer is that you can chug it easily.
Myself, I'm more of a guiness guy, though I'm not against experiments : I'm trying adelscott right now, and I think I could grow to like it ;7

Dude, is that true? I frequently have to go without much/any drinking one night because I have work the next day and can't afford the hangover... now of course if you drink enough of anything you feel it the next day - but if it's really true about beer, well that gives me an option :)
-
It just means you won't have a headache, alas you do feel like you are wearing 3 layers of cotton wool on your head and that your tongue needs a shave ;)
-
you get less of a hangover the purer the stuff is. vodka is essentially ethanol and water, and gin isn't far off. whiskey and the likes are a lot more "polluted" tho.
-

Yup. 's true.
I never really get hangovers anyway, but I feel less ****ty after drinking spirits than after drinking booze.
And I've had 2 physics teachers and 2 chemistry teacher tell me I'm right.
And the chem teacher was a true alcoholic. Through the whole alcohol module of the course he'd keep going off on these little stories about how him and his university buddies would break into the chemistry labs to steal the equipment, take it all back to theirs and set it up as a mixing system where you could make various strengths and flavours of drink by turning different taps.
Though, obviously, if you drink a whole bottle of vodka the alcohol alone will **** you up.

He told me, he wouldn't tell anyone. :nervous: :shaking:
Seriously, he told you that? Didn't you use that info in your advantage? :p
Try doing the same and see what he tells you afterwards.

On the subject of lager, my brother knew a few people that used to work in a brewery and he said to them "I bet you get a load of free drinks" they told him they've never touched lager since they started working there and saw all the **** that goes into into it.

HaHaHa.... You're all pussies, you should visit Estonia, if you want some real alcohol, like 80% Vodka but I've also drank 92% Vodka, that actualy isn't vodka, but I can't remember how it was called in english, anyways - takes your breath away. Well punk on you all, I'm gonna go to have a drink.

Kapteeni Viin and Vesi 80 are truly the best gifts the brother people of Estonia can give to humble Finns.
And of course finnish beer MUST be bought from Tallinn. [This is actually true.]
But on the topic: I prefer vodka+mixer - lemon, vichy or battery types - and beer. Beer beer beer. Strong, darker lagers, not some reindeer piss. Very rarely before that I go for mild 4:20.

The best drink in the whole entire world is Smirnoff mixed with Bols Blue.

bols blue is really good. one of my fav drinks is ice bear (vodka, bols blue and sprite/other similar to sprite). nothing beats white russians, tho.

Tap water! Mmmm....

Speaking of tap-water, all that Coke Dasani stuff was recalled from the UK because it's packed with Carcinogens (Bromates IIRC).

It seems everything's packed with garcinogens nowadays.
Damn those garcinogenic chickens garcinogenically (wtf) lying garcinogenic eggs which will then be roosted in garcinogenic... stuff.
And they're garcinogenic.

Frosty Jacks - The king of cheap ciders, at 7.5% and only £2.49 ($4) a 3 litre bottle, its 3 times cheaper than beer for the same amount of alcohol. It has a strange kick to it when you first drink it, but after a few it tastes like champaign. Cheap-ass student's heaven.
If I'm out in a pub, club, or student union (usually), I start off with a trusty pint of lager. Tennets is the main tap in most places, its Scottish and goes down well - better than Bud, which is like polystyrine its so fizzy. Carling is about the English equivilent of Tennents, but is less available.
Usually move on to vodka and coke after a while, with the occasional sambucha or aftershock.
Its all good.
-
Cider and lager are both satans urine and satans sperm. Given the chance to live my life again with all the knowledge I've so far acquired I'd avoid them by any means possible.
-
Let me point out beatspete does not represent the drinking habit of all Scots.
Dude, do not tell me you like Tennants! :p
Ah could be worse my mate drinks Pear Cider. :wtf:

I can go to tesco downtown and get a bottle, I'm in the UK, it's not the real strong stuff but it does have a large quantity of wormwood which is the active ingredient in Absinthe. Your best bet though is to try to order some from Romania, we did that for new years a few years back, ended setting fire to a whole jug of the stuff (it burns very well) and betting a mate to drink it. He never. I wouldn't have either, it burns hard enough without the flames.
I suppose if you wanted to arrange something where I get you a bottle and I post it to you we could sort something out over a PM if you like.

I know a lot of people don't like it, but if you can get over the whole "i must be cool and drink this fizzy foreign beer", then drinking tennets becomes like drinking water to you. Tennets is refreshing and goes down well. Its not full or air like bud (the american AND the chez varients :D), kronnenburg, or becks. And its got a more laid-back flavour like miller or carling, its not trying to get you to drink it because its advertised lots or its fashionable, its just there like an old friend.

Tennents is piss water, Tennents super is piss water with paint stripper mixed in. You may aswell drink a can of Skol mixed with nail varnish remover, probably cheaper too.
Nice old bit of Famous Grouse or Jack Daniels can't be beaten.

Me, I'm a Bundy (Bundaberg Rum for the unenlightened) man, it's one of the few drinks that actually tastes really good in a premix. I also like the odd bit of bourbon, and some whiskey, though not straight. That said, I'll pretty much drink whatever's going, though I tend to avoid beer... nasty.
Oh, and Goon. Cheap, Strong, and kinda mixable - it's the student's staple. Goon of Fortune is a lot more fun than it realistically should be.

Because lager is so full of chemicals it gives me a bad stomach and a bad head, if I drink spirits I still can get a headache but only when I've had a stupid amount. I've done the night out on lager many times, mostly when I go out in Birmingham cause anything else is too damn expensive.
