Dear HLP Denizens:
I'm not Rampage. Instead, I'm his 18-year old son. My father is going through - a midlife crisis and can no longer be bothered by HLP. The primary reason is that he just got dismissed from his teaching position for the next school year. :( He's 38, jobless, and blames George W. Bush. Well, he has me to support, my 15-year old sister, and my 11-year old brother. So we're really in the dumpster right now.
He basically gave me the rights to his account here and ask me to take over. So here's a couple of things:
1. Attempted Suicides: He's no longer developing it. We sat down one night and had a talk about this, and he said that it would be his will to leave the project to me. Believe it or not, you should see some new developments real soon, just before I go on to college. (Cornell University, I hope...)
2. There's no number two.
Unlike other members, I'm not going to start a "help Rampage" fund. Just remember my family... Thanks.

1. Welcome to HLP. Sorry I can't remember rest of the welcome spiel. Something about shotguns and flamethrowers.
2. Hope you and your dad get back on your feet.

Oh so you are Rampage? :wtf: :blah:
-
From the text of the post, he's Rampage's son. But he took over his father's nickname.
-
The new Rampage.

Can I start a Help Rampage Fund™?
I promise at least 5% of all takings will go to a worthwhile cause which may or may not be directly or indirectly associated with the Rampage Family©.

Then why did he put 'Rampage' at the end of the post if he's clearly not Rampage.
Oh well. Anyway...
-
Because he's now Rampage. He is using the nickname. Because of this, he put the name at the end of his post.

I'm AM the new Rampage, after my father. Oh by the way, admins, please don't eradicate my father's post count.
My father isn't coming back anytime soon. But I'll be around... So how about an introduction for me to HLP (tell me about the members, maybe any female members...).
-
there were some female members but they're... inactive.

time for the ultimate question, Rampage.
Which is the correct spelling: turret or turrent?
-
Let's see....
Female members: I think we ran out of those, since icespeed stopped visiting the board.
Other members: Too lazy to list them all, so I'll just list the admins I can think of off the top of my head:
Setekh (admin/render artist)
Kalfireth AKA Thunder (admin)
Sandwich (admin)
Maeglamour (admin/modeler)
Shrike (admin/modeler/one I had initially forgotten to mention)
There's many more admins. Can't think of their names though. Don't worry, they're not tyrranical despots.
-
and if an0n bothers you, don't worry about it. He's just an attention whore and can be an alright person sometimes.

Yeah, I noticed... :)
-
Can't remember. Someone went around for a while saying turrent all the time.
-
about half the HLP population said turrent for a while. some still do. It's just one of those... things. Apparently you spell it correctly, hence your confusion.
EDIT: as for an0n... You ain't seen nothin' yet.

Uh, GW: You forgot Shrike.
And I'm just a big, cuddly teddy-bear (http://fursuit.timduru.org/dirlist/FurryCon/AnthroCon/AC2K/BearSuit.jpg) really.
-
a big, cuddly, alchoholic, phsychotic, teddy-bear.
aside from that though, you're all right.
-
Oh yeah. It's time to tell you guys about some of my MODding abilities, as it seems that's all you probably care about.
I know the basics, such as table-editing.
I know how to operate trueSpace and LightWave, and have co-authored several models with my father.
I know how to UVMAP, as I mapped most of my father's models (taken from Homeworld).
I like to make PERFECT models, which means that my models tend to include full LOD, debris, and symmetric shields with respect to the model.
I know how to make SS Animations in 3DS MAX. I am also proficient in PaintShop and PhotoShop and have made several UV maps for my father's models in these programs.

You're right. I did. Off to edit the post.
-
excellent, good texturers are in short supply. What everyone really needs though are FREDers.
-
I'm sure your dad will be ok in no time.
Untill then, good luck - keepin together you can make it through.
-
be a texturer. we have way too many modelers right now.
-
I'd've thought the animation thingies would be the more desirable skill.

Am I the only one who assumed an0n meant the girl's list?

Rampage, I'm sad to hear about your father's struggle - I truly hope he comes out of this stronger than before. But welcome to you, and I think it's great that you're carrying on Rampage Snr's commitment to Attempted Suicides. :)
:welcome:
-
you know i was skiming through the first post the first time i read through it and scared myself with the attempted suicides thing and thought he tried to kill himself :shaking:

@ Rampage,
I salute you and your father, for in this unfortunate event you are witnessing. I think this proves some of the ugly things we Europeans think about your president aren't all wrong.
Most important thing is that you all stick with your father through this. He needs you badly.
And the most important thing. Your attitude REALLY does give your father credit both for parenting and teaching skills!
-
Sorry to hear about your dad's problems. Might be an idea to choose a new name though cause otherwise things will get mighty confusing (especially if the original rampage comes back).
How about Rampage:TNG :D

Sorry to hear about your dad. Does he have any other skills outside of teaching? If not, I dunno, my uncle does flooring in CA. Dunno where you guys live, but flooring is good money, especially for good workers. :D (FYI I don't know if my uncle is hiring or not :nervous:)

Meh, IMHO screw europeans. Like I care what or who they think should be my President. Like I give a damn about who's your head of state, unless he's/she's attacking my country (in word or deed).

Unfortunately when your country is the only global superpower and it's influence is felt in almost every other country, it's our RIGHT to care about your president and conversely, you prove how ignorant you truly are because you don't care about anything outside your own little world (in fact it's THAT attitude that most Europeans hate about most small minded, ignorant Americans).

I don't see any mud throwing, Snoj was basically saying that we shouldn't care about one of the most powerful persons in the world and how his influences are felt worldwide. That to me is an incredibly ignorant statement to make.

Well I've always heard how we should mind our own business (e.g. Iraq), and now you're telling me we shouldn't? I will never get europeans. Like I said, I don't care who your head of state is as long as they leave me and my country alone. Now how is that ignorant? And furthermore what has Bush done that would jeapedies or otherwise slander your country? Hell when I watch the news I see people burning my flag, do you see americans burning your flag? I think not.
That gives me an idea, I think I'll go find some foreign flags and then burn and dishonor them while shouting derogatory remarks about your leaders. (note to self: make sure to get french and german flags)
Now if you want to continue lets take this to email or PM (email preferably since my pm inbox is getting full and I don't want to clean it out)

I don't care for flag burning, I think the people that do it are idiots and the people that cry about it are pussies.
Unfortunately you don't seem to realise that being the only superpower left in the world allows America to use it's might ilegally, the war in Iraq (whilst justifiable in part for the deposition of Saddam Hussein) was an illegal war, it's not a case of minding ones own business, it's a case of the international community responding to bully boy tactics from a supposed democratic nation.
Personally Bush has never done anything to slander my country, to slander a staunch ally like the UK would be political suicide for him, you don't seem to realise however that the Bush administrations policies on corporate monopolies, the environment and numerous other issues affect EVERY god damn person on this planet, which is where you'll find people tend to get riled about it.
You not caring about about the world situation is blatant ignorance, if you really don't care about what's going on around you and how it's going to influence your future then you have my pity you really do.

So you are saying that what we did shouldn't have been done. K. And we are not a democracy like people think, we are a democratic republic. Meaning we elect officials to offices and they represent us on state and federal levels of the government. And look at the facts man, the UN even said the war was legal. Resolution 1441 said Saddom was in violation of the treaty he signed. So there for we had every "right" to go in there. There was a war because he wouldn't just walk away from power. Bush even gave him a chance to do that! Bully my ass.

Whatcha gonna do about it? :p J/k But seriously though, what policies are you talking about? You may know it already, but I'm a "right-winger" and a very stunch christian. Everything I've seen on this environment crap is IMHO a buncha bull. Now granted I havn't seen everything, but I can tell you that the evidence for such stuff is very circumstantial and/or seems like they pulled it outa their ass.

"blatant ignorance"? History has shown my world views are good for sociaty. But it seems some people don't like them, so they reject them. I do care what happens to me, my family and country, that is why I support Bush about Iraq and many of his foreign policies.
I suppose this argument basicly boils down to what you believe. With that, I bid you adieu.

Ok, now I'm really scared!
It's a bit of rock thrown up by geological activity, it was there before you were born and, with any luck, it'll be there long after you are gone. Getting all possessive about a piece of rock has always seemed a bit strange to me ;)
I also believe there is a wonderful quote in a siggy in here about standing by things regardless of whether they are right or wrong.
England is a lovely place, but Blair screwed up big time, what's more they are trying to buy us off with the budget now, and probably half the people in my country are suckers enough to be bought off. No one asks 'If Brown is giving 8bn to education, he must have been saving it for a while, so why did he allow our education system to slump into a complete ****ehole before plugging this money?'. The answer is simple ;)

I'm sorry to hear about your father... I hope he can recover fast from his problems, but he will need your support.

Best wishes to Rampage Sr!

Aren't political debates about how stupid Bush is in the middle of a thread trhat has nothing to do with it a bit cliche by now?

No... they're all the rage.

Welcome to HLP Rampage (TNG).
I didn't really know your father, but I wish both of you luck. I'll take my geopolitical opinion elsewhere.
The fact you can handle the situation is a testament to his skills so he's bound to find some job. Goodspeed.
PS.: For 2D Graphics, Lightspeed was the biggest figure recently talk to him
Bobbau, Sticks and the rest of the SCP are working hard
There are several MODs in progress - you've got a good 'pedigree' to get started
PS. PS.:TNG - The New Guy?

I know, I know...though it's good if a phrase has a more broader context to it.

I never called anyone stupid, I simply said how I think it's ignorant to dismiss what's going on in the world as "none of your business".
I personally don't have an opinion on Bush much more than I think he's just a handpuppet. Much like Mr Blair over here is, it's the civil servants that really run the country and regardless of elections they always hold the same positions of authority and power.
-
By stupid, I mean general quarreling over this and that. My bad.
And :wtf: Handpuppet for who? Civil servants? :wtf:

the illuminati.

Ah ok, didn't realise that, I just really, really abhor wilful ignorance.
Civil servants more applies to the UK, when a government changes hands here, it's just the elected officials that are figurheads for their respective departments (education, culture, sport etc.) however the people that actually do most of the work and make most of the decisions are the Civil servants and these don't change so you'll find that there tends to be little difference between any government over here that is unwilling to tackle them.
As for Bush, I don't really see him as the guy in the driving seat of his own administration is all, which would make him just a figurehead with no power, like a handpuppet for the people behind him and some of the larger corporations (*cough* Enron *cough*)
-
Well, all is still encouraging. He's still teaching at that place, but just until school's over. He teaches a senior (12th grade) American history class and had to fail about 25% of his students because of poor (I mean, really poor, as I graded some of their tests.) grades. We did get some phone calls and some surface threats from parents during the night and stuff. The administration wasn't happy, as these students can't graduate if they fail any class their senior year.
The kids either liked him or they hated him. Most hated him because they're dumbasymptotes subculturals. He was hosting an afterschool physics class for the science department for several physics students who wanted to take the AP Physics C exam in May. The administration closed it down after three months being in session.
Basically he was fluxed by the administration for something he didn't do. All he did was fail those who deserved to fail. So I guess the school board saw him as a guy who sucked as a teacher. He doesn't doubt that he'll ever teach again in another school, as the school board probably had him blacklisted as a "bad teacher".
So - I don't know... Attempted Suicides will need some thought. I hope to finish some version of the campaign before I go off to college. Too bad my sister doesn't like video games (Not Freespace anyway... She likes that word scrambling game on Yahoo!.) and my brother's too young, or I would be having several more hands in the family to help me out. My father's been playing Half-Life for the past month to - vent, so I doubt he's in the mood to do anything Freespacy anytime soon.
-
Note: following post will try to be comedy and fail in it.
Sorry, but this Rampage II / Rampage: TNG / Rampage Advanced is quite funny, because it reminds me of some classic (read: ****ty) sci-fi and superhero movies. You know, like "Birds of Prey" (ack) or any "the hero returns in some form" -series/films?

:wtf: @ Janos
Rampage TNG: Don't take this personally, your dad could've just gotten stuck with a bunch of ****ty kids, but generally when that much of your class is failed, something is wrong somewhere. It may be at home, it may be their attitude, lifestyle, etc. Or they may just be plain dumb. But part of being a teacher is reaching that and correcting it, and getting through and teaching them.
Don't get me too wrong, I'm not attacking your dad, and it's probably too late to change anything. But you can't really blame the school administration if they see a guy who has students repeatedly failing his class and get worried about it.
In all fairness though, blacklisting like that would be extreme.
-

Personally I understand. It may have been my father, but he's always a tough history teacher. There have been kids who passed his class with flying colors, but I undoubtedly think it's the kids. Some of them aren't just failing history. They're also failing or doing miserable in other courses. Some teachers see these kids as being seniors (I'm a high school senior myself.) and have contracted "senioritis" and give them "special reprieves" on exams, but that's cheating. My father follows the more conservative method of teaching. He doesn't give a crap if you're failing and a senior and won't graduate. So what? All that poor slob has to do is to delay a year in entering college, take the GED exam, and get a half-asymptotic high school diploma.
As you see, I'm behind my father 110 percent.
-
Well it sounds like your father has his morals, which is good. Unfortunatly, it's put him out of work.

Dunno about the States, but here, that situation, I believe, exists too. And I'm saddened to say that if the teachers may be faulty, I think the failure goes to parents, first. When I look at the kids of taday, I'm frightened. I'm only 23, so there's not a generation gap or anything between us, but I've come to kick ( yeah, litterally ) kids because they were so dumb ( when you're 14 and you try pissing off a ... back then, 20 years old guy, you have to be idiotic ). They just don't give a damn about school, they don't study, they don't even try. They watch TV, they play videogames, they're skipping classes. The parents let it go. Then they complain coz they're kicked back to their previous class ( in France, at least, school doesn't go easy on them ). And then, all of a sudden, you hear the parents, they complain, they shoot, they threaten, they're afraid they won't get rid of the little buggers anytime soon ( oh my! ). If a kid tries hard enough, even if he has difficulties, he will be rewarded. When I look at kids nowadays, they don't deserve being rewarded. The thing is true for students too, I've noticed.
I wonder if there's some kind of idiocy epidemy going on all around the world. I'm worried about the future :doubt:
'nyway, Rampage ( R2? ), sorry to pollute your thread with that. Welcome to HLP, and give my regards to your father, I like him ( he's about the only one who helped me out when I was working on my Descent campaign, you see, I have some good memory, even if I don't show it often :p ). I'm sure that American History knowlegde of him can bring opportunities aside from being "just" a teacher.
