Title: Why is my clock fu)(0red?
Post by: Knight Templar on March 21, 2004, 04:14:27 am
You know, the one on bottom right of the screen.

I noticed it was about 4 minutes slow at around 11:58pm today, so I synchronized with the government time site and got 12:02am. Cool, I thought it was fixed.

Now it says it's 1:59 am, when it should be 2:02 am. What would cause it to loose three minutes in two hours?

I get this problem cause my CMOS battery on my motherboard is dodgy and it tends to reset all my BIOS settings. Check the time in your BIOS cause that's usually the problem with mine, though it's only ever happened in XP.

What the hell? Here too? Lately I have seen a lot of people posting (elsewhere) about their system clock loosing or gaining several minutes per hour.

Strange, must be a conspiracy of sort...

By any change, Knight Templar, do you use Azureus? If you don't know what it is, forget my question.

01010: Will do. Thanks.

Fury: If you're referring to peopel here, that was with the forum clock, not the PC clock.

And I don't know what it is, but I've never heard of it, so probably not.

Tiara: Ow? Oh.

Mice buttons go CLICK!

...And yeah, it's most likely your MB battery - replace it.

'Tis 4:20 on my computer, when it should be around 4:45.  That's strange...

Batteries do wear out  :p
The life expentency of a battery is 3 years, after that they begin to do that.. :sigh:

I have replaced 2 batteries, in different pc`s and the problem was resolved..

(edit) Come to think of it, this pc is 3 years old, i`ll have to start monitoring my clock..

Also when resetting resolution in the control panel and not restarting afterwards has been known to throw the clock off, this may not apply to newer pc`s..

Nope, not the forum clock and not in this forum.

You might want to try BIOS update since those will fix pc clock anomalies sometimes. Although it is probably just wearing out battery,

I'll mess with it next time I start up.

Oh, I checked the clock as it went along... it seems to lag for a second and a half ever five seconds. Does that mean anything in particular, or just a dying battery still?

This is what happens to mine, I think XP tries to sync with the internal clock and the internet time database at the same time and just ****s up. It's not even a dying battery in my case, just sometimes it likes to reset all my BIOS settings.

It's a good job I built this system myself or I'd never know where to begin.
