Title: Graphical Error
Post by: Artanis on March 21, 2004, 07:14:32 am
Hi all,

I've recently installed FREESPACE 2. My sistem is a:
Pentium 4 3000 Mhz
ATI Radeon 9700 PRO
Windows XP PRO SP1

Well the game starts and run perfectly, BUT the graphics are messed up. The text are semi underlined and the main screen has got many lines that divide the image in several pieces.

If can be usefull I can post an image of what I get.

Thank you all,

Fabrizio

a screenie is always usefull.

i suggest using the Source Code Project's work. click the link under my name, go to the SCP section, and find a completely and recently updated manual on how to install FSO.

You'll have turn turn AA off and turn on large textures.
Load my launcher and goto the video tab:

tick 'use large textures' and 'fix font distortion problem'

The launcher can be found in my sig.

Blue lines right? To the bottom and right of the images? If so you're not alone. I get this bug too.

I've tried your Launcher, but unfortunately it doesn't work either.

This is what I get (don't mind for the cd request, it's just to show you the text problem) :

Thank you for what you can do.

That is caused by turning on Antialiasing, at least for me. If you are using a GeForce, set antialiasing to application controlled.

Are you running in a standard screen size there?

Also try applying the GeForce Fix in the launcher even if you don't have a GeForce card :D

Hmmm. Since this isn't the same problem I've been having I'll have to take my own pic :)

That should get a 'duh' from everyone here (after all, he is showing us the "CD Not Found" error).  It's a known graphical bug in FS2 that should have been corrected early on in the SCP's development.  Get it, run it, and see what happens.

Hang on a sec. You used the launcher. Did you download FS2_open too? :nervous:

If not try clicking on the installing FS2_open link in my sig.

I've understand what the problem is.
This "graphical error" ONLY occurs if I set "Large Textures" (both using the launcher and the FS2_Open OR using the reg hack).
Disabling that, the game works fine.

Unfortunately I can't use FS2_Open because I'm using at the same time the FreeSpace 1 port in FS2 and I get errors with weapons.

So, now It's all ok. But I was wondering why, if I set resolution 1024x768 x 32 bit in FreeSpace regular Launcher I still get the Animation (command briefing for example) at 640x480 (they don't fit the windows). What can I do to solve this?
And... yes another question ^_^; since I'm using the FS1portFS2 I want to hear the FS1 soundtrack. When I put the music.tbl (necessary to enable bith fs1 and fs2 soundtracks) in the data/tables directory the game dosn't boot and I get this in the error log:
FS2 caused an Access Violation in module FS2.exe at 001b:00447a0a.
Exception handler called in Freespace 2 Main Thread.
Error occurred at 3/21/2004 21:14:22.

Can you solve this?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH and sorry for my bad english (I come from Italy :) )

What errors do you get? Simply install make a folder called FS1Port and move both your data folder and the FS1Port VP file inside it.

Should work perfectly.

Yes it does! It can set everything up perfectly.
It just doesnt recognise it sometimes. v5 will.

Putting on large textures will solve half your problems.

The problems I get with FreeSpace 1 port + FS2_OPEN are with the weapons.
In the mission 1 of The Great War, I get the Ulysses instead of Apollo and I've got no weapons.

However...

How can I have a full working FS2_Open with the FreeSpace1 Port enabled and fully working? It's seems a little hard, isn't it?

What I have to do?

Thank you for answering.

You simply need to create a new pilot in FS2open and the 'problem' you state there will be fixed. :)

Thank you all, I've fixed the problem.

Now I can't get the music for FreeSpace 1 in the fs1port.

I mean, I've put the music.tbl in the proper directory and I have the warble_fs1.vp.

The game starts, there are no problem, the music.tbl is accepted, BUT there are no FS1 music in the Great War. The music is still the same (FS2_Amb_01.wav I guess) and never change during the mission.

Precisely, what I have to do to have fs1 music work in fs1 main campaign (FS1port2)?

Thank you!
