Title: More M$ problems - IE
Post by: DragonClaw on March 21, 2004, 02:00:06 pm
It started about a week ago... my Internet Explorer got pwnt. I use mozilla now, but some websites I do things on require Internet Explorer.
I.E.'s javascript is completely nonfunctional for me now... I can't do ANYTHING that contains javascript. It just won't work. Which means I can't check my email, I can't view any sites that preload images, etc. And the "find" function won't even work. I type something into the field and the "find" button stays greyed out.
Any ideas on how to fix it?

OS Specs: Windows XP Professional SP1

If you are running an older version of IE you could try installing a newer version.  This might correct your problem.  Otherwise you'll probably have to reinstall it completely or use another web browser.

When I run the setup found here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.asp

It just says I already have a newer version of IE installed... I'll attempt to uninstall it and then run it I suppose.

My parent's IE is like that... The back button will not work, and it's prone to crashing from time to time.  I have them using nutscrape.

I fixed it once, by using a service pack on their PC, but soon after, it went back to it's sameold problem. Virus scanners and adware proggies do nothing.

Nowhere to uninstall Internet Explorer either, piece of royal manure

Snipes: very encouraging :p

I can't even run Windows Update because the javascript won't work... yay for Microsoft and their uber ghey-dom.

Accessing Windows Update with any browser other than IE results in a complaint

yeah great advice

in fact, rather than simply reinstalling the entire operating system for a minor program problem, i'd say you should do a complete low-level of your hard drive.  it'd probably take a few days, but i guarantee it would fix the problem

Try downloading Opera (http://www.opera.com), then setting it to identify itself as IE (on the menu that pops up when you press F12). That ought to fix any situations with Microsoft websites refusing access.

Look in the "Windows Options" of the Add/Remove CP, there should be something there to chuck IE.

May I remind everybody here that the source for XP is probably in the 60 GB range given all the "improvements" they made over the 2000 source that was 40 GB.

Remove the non-microsoft software and submit yourself for purification. Everything will work then.

If the problems with Javascript, use Mozilla to download the J2RE to replace the MS VM.
