Amid all the randomness we have going on right now, I thought I'd start something I don't think we've had before. It's funny who has connections to who - and I think it could be interesting to see that here. So lets see if anyone has any ties - close or distant - with famous (or not so famous) types.
I'll kick us off of course - while I have nother I don't know so much about - I do have ties with this man:
Henry Avery (http://tinpan.fortunecity.com/lennon/897/avery.html)
Avast! :D

Well being of the Beverley line, chances are I can trace my heritage back to yon Philip Beverley of the New Forest or whoever he was. Some Middle Ages nobelman or something, apparently.
Alternatively, my grandfather once hijacked a tram in Hong Kong when he was in the Navy during the war.
-
My uncle was a Chipendale Dancer... Does that count?
-
I'm an incredibly distant relation of the Baltimores, and apparently I'm descended from Irish pirates, and possibly Irish bards. I also rate a coat of arms :p

My aunt is a (prominent? )writer and has written something like 10 books on the topic of Jewish people in Yugoslavia and the Holocaust. Thats about as famous a person as I can think of in my family.
-
I am the famous person in my family.
-
Well, my grandmother on my father's side is an Adams and her brother traced the lineage all the way back, 16~20 generations, to King Duncan I, II, and III, of Scotland. Course, half of Scotland could probably do that by now.
More closely, one of my aunts on my mother's side is a Skaggs and she is 2nd or 3rd cousin to Country/Bluegrass Artist Ricky Skaggs.
I'll provide geneology for the first late(when I can get a copy from my grandmother)
-
My Grandmother's cousin was a high CEO for Bristoll-Meyers Squibb...? He passed away a few months ago tho...
-
Yeah, I come from two very famous people: Adam and Eve.
Oups, I did it again ( anhan! ).
-
Inbred Hick!
-
Sitting Bull
-
The O'Dea family has a castle, thats about it.
-
Henry Cooper in the close past, the Theobald Family (relatives of Henry VI, apparently) in the far past. :)
-
i think on my grandmother's side, napoleon was a distant relative..
-
The only things any of my family have ever been famous for are some fairly questionable activities which achieved local fame.
-
my uncle once removed or something was some professional football player.
-
i traced one of my relatives back to 1782 need to do some more research to see if it go's back further.

Well my great grand father (Who has the same name as me), was one of the organisers of a Farmers' revolt (Killeler) in Thessalia, Greece 6th March of 1910, which was the beginning of the end for the abolishment of serfdom, whereby from Landlord's pets, they became free farmers. Every time I see the marble monument of the revolt, I am awed. Also, a first cousin was Mayor in a small city in Thessalia, Greece 4 years ago.
-
A distant grandfather (as in sever 'greats') on my dad's side was kidnapped by pirates up in Canada or northern US, and later escaped like 10 years later or something. Not really famous but a cool story.
-
Ye I can't name famous relatives but I can tell you two great cousins who were in the secret services in WW2.
-
Eric Clapton ;) (the song writer/musician)
He's my...3rd cousin I think...on my mothers mothers side of the family.

Although...I've never met him...we are distant cousins :)
-
My Uncles name is Adolf but AFAIK I don't think his related to Hitler, which I think is a good thing...because I would have probably killed him  Besides the point I'm sure no one in my family is famous 'famous' YET anyway..:D
-
Personally, none that I know of on either side. A friend of mine though, is related to General Westmoreland of the Vietnam War.
-
I'm related to this dude (http://historymedren.about.com/library/who/blwwegbert.htm) through my mom's side; both my dad's parents were orphans so tracing things on that side is a bit tough.
Do I win? :p
-
No.
Layla owns.
-
there is a nobel prize winner somewhere in the family, IIRC. Chem or Physics, a guy named Eindhoven AFAIK.
-
I don't know if there is or was any famous peoples in my family but I know my familys history is very old (fathers side)
mother side is very old too I don't know how old 1000-800years
there is even few Crusade knights in my family tree (mothers side)
-
My father is (apparently, it's not the kind of thing I hear about directly) internationally recognized in the vanadium chemistry fields and he's a plenary speaker at this year's IUPAC conference in Hungary. That's about as famous as my family gets.
Oh, and my great-to the Nth grandfather was Jesus's second cousin's roommate. Almost forgot.
-
My surname means great chieftan so no doubt somewhere in Ireland's past I had a badass ancestor.
Oh yeah, my dad once talked to Shaft (he's a baddd mother golfer) at a local golfing tourney. I think I win on coolness factor. ;)

My great-great-great (or something to that effect) grandfather was one of the founding members of the Irish Republican Army (family tree gets a little difficult to trace correctly so this isn't a definite), and my Grandad was a unstated war hero. Anyone that knows the story of the bridges at Arnhem and knows of Sgt Baskeyfield , well my Grandad helped this man (http://www.arnhemarchive.org/john_baskeyfield.htm) defend against Panzer tanks and also buried his corpse after one of them fired a shell directly into him.
-
My great-uncle is Admiral Yeh Chang-tung, former commander in chief of Taiwan/ROC's navy.
-
Well my father was Pertti Reponen (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0720091/)
If you want to read up on him, you can check out the biography written of him here (http://www.kirjasto.sci.fi/prepo.htm).
My second cousin (http://www.17bedfordrow.co.uk/member.asp?memberid=1) is also one of England's top child, medical and human rights lawyers. He also had something to do with the Hutton inquiriy and often pops up Sky News as a guest.
Well thats who I'm related to atleast. Though I've met quite a few famous people in my time...

You're lucky. They took away our castle after we supported the Stuarts.

I asked some family members and found a few things out on my mother's side. My great-great-grandmother traced our line back and Pocohantas (Indian guide for colonial settelers) was mentioned as family. Also, Johnny Appleseed's real name was John Chapman, most of my mother's family are Chapman's. Unfortunately, 'John Chapman' was the 'John Doe' of the 17-1800's.
-
Does Leif Erricson count?
-
My grandma served Jerry Seinfeld lunch in high school. Does that count?
-
I believe one of my relations is to blame for Woody Woodpecker.
