I decided to install tachyon the fringe on my newer computer. I know it looked like crap, and it needs the SCP way more than freespace 2 did, but it was fun, and I had it, so why not?
But, oh no! it installs up until 78% then errors and closes down. i tried it several times, and i've tried both drives. The same thing always happens. It says it can't transfer tachyon.pff or something like that. So now I want a replacement disk, but I don't know how to get one. I looked on the Novalogic website, but no help. I paid my 40 bucks for it, and I want to play. What do I do?
-
Try cleaning the CD.
I seem to remember getting something like that. I tried a few more times and it went away.

First of all, quit badmouthing the game. It looked (and still looks) far better than FS2 ever did, and was a hell of a lot more fun to play (even if you turned off Bruce Campbell).
You COULD just head down to the local EB Games or whatever and buy a new copy for $5 off the bargain rack.
Or you could ask one of us that has the game to hook you up with an ISO, since you already have the game and all.

I suggest you play it again. the pixelation! urrgh. they must have used 32x32 bitmaps for the effects.

Yes, but you get to have sex with the hot controller woman.

Actually, I'm halfway throught the Bora campaign now, Carl. The pixellation is really only on the cockpit art and, well, I don't fly with the cockpit visible. The rest of the game is gorgeous, especially those peasoup nebulae.

not the galspan one, who had a hotter voice.
this is what i'm talking about:

anyway, can anyone hook me up?
-
that looks like its getting it's color forced down to 16 bit from 32
-
Um, Carl, could you repost that pic without JPG compression? and have you looked at your setting and cranked all the sliders as far to the right as they'll go?
I don't remembe seeing ANYTHING like that in the game.
-
it's barely compressed, and it's from the demo, i dunno if that's the problem, but probably not, since i remember it being that way when i had the game.
-
Maybe the demo lacks all the hi-res textures. That does look pretty poor. :nervous:
-
You know I just fired up the game and really looked at a background nebula. Carl's right: there's some nasty compression artifacts there, though not nearly as bad as his image suggested. I did some fly arounds of bases and ships, and that's really the only major pixellation to be seen. There's a bit on ship textures if you get really close, but you both have to be pretty stationary to see it, since movement tends to smear the pixellation.
All in all, it holds up graphically pretty damned well.
-
you know, maybe it won't run on XP. mik, are you running XP?
-
Nope. I'm running Win2k.
I wouldn't touch use XP on a stolen computer. I would sooner use a Mac.
