Title: Firefox themes problem
Post by: Rictor on March 23, 2004, 10:09:27 am
Right. So yesterday I decided to upgrade to the 21st century and install Firefox. Everything works fine, except that I am unable to install new themes.

Actually thats not quite right. I was able to install one new theme, but thats it. The first one I tried worked fine, but after that I tried several more, and none of them worked.

Options>Themes>Install New Themes (or whatever, I'm on a different computer now), right? The theme goes into download manager, download succesfully, and says "Installation Successful, please restart Firefox for the changes to take effect". WEll, I do, and back in the Options>Themes screen, its just the two themes I already had.

I even tried downloading the .jar file to my desktop, and installing it from there. Same thing, it says "Installtion successful, please restart", but I do and nothing happens. BY the way, I am assuming that "restart" means close all Firefox windows and open up a new one. If there is a "restart" button somewhere, I haven't seen it.

So...

It's the browser formerly known as Mozilla Firebird. Its an alternative to Internet Explorer.

I  had a similar issue with extensions. IIRC it was the downloaded file that got corrupted, since a later version worked. Dunno what to tell you.

Are you absolutely sure that the themes you're downloading or currently running are for the correct version of Firefox?

Well, my bro downloaded the file a few days ago, so I'm assuming that its the newest version of Firefox. As for the themes, I assume that they are compatible with whatever the newest version is.

The wierd thing is, the first theme I installed was OK, but after that...And then, I thought maybe you could only have 2 themes at any given time, so I uninstalled the one I already had , leaving only the original. Now, I can't even put that one back...

See, there have been some issues with newer versions of firefox and older themes. Not sure if that might be the case.

Have you tried re-installing firefox by downloading from the website again?

Hmm, OK, just to test it out, I tried to install two other themes, and it worked. That sentence had too many commas.

Some that I try to install work, and others don't. Nowhere on the Firefox listing of themes, nor on the theme's homepage does it list the version of Firefox for which the theme is intended.

Its Phoenity Modern (the grey one) if you're wondering.

So, some work, others don't. However, when I installed one of the new themes I just tried, when it said "install successful", it had this little fire picture logo thing beside it, but when I try to install phoenity modern it doesn't show the pciture, just a message. And I'm pretty sure that the message looked a bit different too.
