Title: Another Shot At Art: Nikita
Post by: Fineus on March 24, 2004, 04:25:38 pm
Please don't ask me why Nikita or anything like that - I'm really low on inspiration but high on the desire to try stuff which is how this came about. Let me know what you think!

I like the highlights on the eyes, and the shading is nice, though her neck tends to drift onto her shirt a bit ;)

It's just that she a bit.....erm.....Butch?

No offense, but Nikita really looks like a transvestite/alien/both? It's mainly in the face. The eyes are pretty, but totally wierd and not human looking. In the rims of the eyes, and the above the lip, you have indications of where there would be a nose, but it's kind of weird flat.  Hair looks a little silly with the two sticking up in the back.

Overall-- Better than I could do.

Great shading. Keep practising with the tablet, your skill is continuing to be refined. :)

Great shading indeed. Unfortunately, the drawing itself is scary. Please take no offense, but it's freaky. *should find a drawing of mine and bug you to practice on it*

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I'm glad the shading at least is a hit - before I published it I was already aware of a few things:

The colors go outside the lines - unavoidable with the "quick" method I was using.

I'm not to keen on her faces shading - part of it looks a bit to much like she has a beard/stubble. Also as has been pointed out the nose is missing in action.

I can't draw. Or rather I can't draw at any calibre yet - but I did realise that however poor a drawing looks on paper - it can always look better with some good coloring. So I colored it anyway and here it is.

Many thanks especially to Turnsky for those links (very useful!) and to those of you worried I migtht take offence at her scaryness.. don't worry - I agree. But I have to start somewhere

Shading in anime comes in two general varieties.  Either very sharp, with no fading between light and dark, or very, very gradual from light to dark.  The shading you have displayed here is almost...blocky.  I can't think of another word to describe it.  <<;  I'm not sure how much this helps.  I'm not nearly as good of an artist as any of the others here.

I think the main shading problem is on the middle of the breasts. Where you have a decent shading defining the main shape , the middles of both breasts are flat, making them seem flat. Almost as if she's being pressed up against a pane of glass....

Maybe that's why her nose is so flat and scary.

P.S. Quick look again just showed that this flatness carries onto her stomach too.

make use of the selection tool and the "spherisze" filter in photoshop with flat textures, makes them look like that there are infact breasts there.. it also works for the shading too..

if you look closely at the new Tiara pic i did, you'll see the effect i used on the camo print.:p

Jesus christ, I'm blind. :(

Seriously, what is it with it's/hers/his eyes? No offense, BUT...
Now I figured it out. The face lacks deepness and curves. It's more like it had no face at all, and some stickers were splatted over it to hide the Alien Conspiracy Abomination.

And why is it so kinky, wearing that shirt?
