Last post for today :p
I've been looking at the 3.5.6c title page for the SCP and I keep thinking that it just doesn't show off the new stuff the SCP has added in.
We really should have a little collection of screenshots that show off what 3.6 will be able to do. Something that'll impress. Something like this:
At least I think this is a pretty nice shot of the Bastion.
I've made a pcx version of this and replaced my title screen already and I think it looks great
But I'm sure that there's tons of even better looking screenshots that are just waiting to be shown.
-
That's a very nice shot  If it only had Lightspeeds new nebulas...
-
New nebulas and a few weapon effects would be good - something really snazzy ;)
-
How about that shot, with a couple fighters zipping past, showing off the new laser and glow effects? :)
-
I dunno. My SCP title screen never even appears. :p
-
It's a bit out of date now due to model updates, but Woo and I have this as our title screen - only problem is it can only be 256 colour ATM. Can you SCP guys maybe up this to 16/32 bit sometime?

I made one when I was doing the VPs.
I'll have a pic in a minute.

red X.
-
Ok, fixed:)
Oh, and to clear things up: I did not make these, actually, IIRC Artemis made the Sathanas and the sun.
All I did was bring back some of he older ones proposed and put them together
-
Can you use an AVI file instead, BTW?

Not as far as I know but if you place an file called intro in your main FS2 folder it will get played (either before or after the spash screen depending on the version)
-
No, It has to be a PCX

AFAIK, you can convert anything down to PCX level:nod:
-
I had exactly teh same idea some weeks ago, i'm sure I still have the screenies somewhere...

The Ravana gets my vote - Shivans look cooler. But you forgot to turn to HUD off when you took them.
-
I could edit that out in a second
but let's see what everyone else comes up with first :)
-
some screenies from my side. It includes the mission for this with all the new background sets for use. For optimal effect, use the Env build :D
Clicky! (http://anandraj.sphosting.com/srcn.zip)
-
While it does show off the engine, that's something I'm hoping they'll avoid with this release: static images that aren't as dynamic with ships parallel to each other.
The third screenshot is probably the best in that set since it's the most dynamic of the three.
I like the one of the Hecate better than the Ravanna one since the lighting in that one simply looks better. Replace the Ravanna with a Demon destroyer instead and put it in a really low light level and methinks it'll look really spooky.
-
Wait a tic... Media VP 3.5.6d is out?

Actually, I like this one the best. I think the code chunk should go down the entire left side of the image though.
-
It isn't yet AFAIK, don't have a heart attack.
While that one does look nice, it doesn't quite show off what the engine can do now. Sure it shows that we can have nice 32-bit backgrounds, but I'm sure people want to see that the models have been upgraded too.
-
No it isn't out yet,:D
WMCoolmon was going to let me take over the VP's, but then I got grounded and then things got screwed up. Although, haven't seen him in a long time or heard from him
-
I like that one by JD too, but don;t put the version number in the graphic, we do that with code :)
-
Ok, when i get home I'll take it out.:)
-
but please do put a mediavp version number on it...
-
You guys do know that that SCP logo and the background images are separate files right?
The logo is placed on top of the background image. So if you want to add a vp version number, change the logo pcx and leave the poor background image in peace.
-
I don't like JD's version that much. Whereas it might look good on extremely low brightness; it has ugly cutting edges around the sun on normal brightness settings, and the upper end of the star is cut off completely.
I also think it's lacking kind of the reference to what you'll see in-game.
-
I agree with lightspeed, here. that doesn't look very good at all.
-
Hey no hard feelings, cause I even think they suck.:)
Just thought I give something.:D
-
I like the idea of using the env. build for the spash screen, for eye-candy purposes, but if we advertize that the spash screen image as indicative of what things will be like in-game... for 3.6 let's say, but don't have that feature enabled, it could dammage our credibility. Just my take I guess.
Oh well... Later!
-
That's why my image is using a build without env-maps. Anything that we are going to use should also use features only found in 3.6 as well as showing off what the engine can do.
-
A Lucifer and Demon fleet would look awesome.
-
If anyone is going to make a fleet, please place the ships in dynamic looking positions, NOT parallel to each other in a row.
Parallel is OK as long as the formation is simply a line. But even so, it's better if you get a view from an angle, that is, not directly from the side.
-
hmm... personally i don't like JDJs - i wanna see _ALL_ the mediavp 3.6 eyecandy combined
-
You could put this with the SCP thingy on there.:)
-
dynamic fleets? No problem.
*goes off to get a nice shot :)
-
God speed Singh.

Cool, next thing Flip will do is make a Daison Sphere out of Sathani... (BTW, has anyone made a Daison Sphere in FS2 yet?)

i like it
-
Well... that's this thread finished then!
Bloody Awesome!
-
That absolutly has to go in there!!
-
But does it show off the engine and features?
-
Who cares?
Look..... MMMMMmmmmmmmmmmm.... Voluuumetrics.....
:nervous:
I'm going to have to lay off the Schnapps ;)
-
Maybe other coders, bughunters (like me), mod makers, and other forumgoers do...
-
I was joking LL
-
other than the fact that that demon is upside down, that's great, I think makeing that render an in game screen shot should be our goal for post 3.6.
-
well....guess that ends the thread then (clear winner!).
here are some more shots from my side anyway, took me a while to upload em so im not gonna waste me time :P

Anywhere else I can host these files??
-
links updated. give the bottom 2 some time before trying tho :/

To be honest, ChronoReverse's looks the best. It showcases the SCP improvements and is an actual in-game image. Although the way the lights look at the far end of the Orion's runaway seems a bit...tacky. (IMHO)
I can't see any of Singh's images and can't comment on those.
Really, you don't need to doctor things up much at this point. Something like this (http://www.penguinbomb.com/omniscaper/Screenshots/shiny02.JPG) shows off high-poly meshes, high-detail textures, reflections, high-detail planet backgrounds...and that's just a ship and a planet. Although it isn't a Freespace-universe ship.
I'm back with a fair amount of free time, so the next mediaVP should be out by Wednesday. Whenever I get finished with the mediaVP (Could be tomorrow, could be Wednesday) I'll use the best aailable submission and put that one up. The author will get full credit in the readme.
About version numbers and such: If you want to add them, that is fine. The next release will be 3.5.6d. From now on I'll be making an effort to use a different picture for each release rather than my old Sathanas screenshot with superimposed version #. If you want to throw in "Freespace Source Code Project" somewhere, that would be awesome. But please, no touching up the screenshot itself with photoshop, it will be much more impressive if it's all made by the FS2 engine.
All submissions are greatly appreciated. It's pretty flattering that people actually remember the mediaVP even though I haven't updated it in ages.

Say, that looks familiar.
Like what you've done with it. :)
-
(http://www.penguinbomb.com/lightspeed/Screenshots/Behemoth2.jpg)
This is an ingame screenie :)
I could easily modify it for title screen use (throw in 'SCP' and stuff like that)
-
ingame screens are the best. the glamor shot of the orion would kickass
-
Agreed, whatever is chosen it needs to reflect the latest possible acomplishments with the game engine... Some hi-poly models would help
-
@WMCoolmon-- I'm glad to see your still here, got alittle worried there:p
and of course we haven't forgot the Media VP, it's such a mess just throwing stuff in folders.
