The gripe: Even though there is a wonderfully organized and scripted section for modding tools, I could not find the version of modelview that supports hi-poly ships.
The request: Does anyone have a link to it?

1) make sure you haveth the latest modview (beta 05 build 28 - http://www.geocities.com/vasudanad/modv32b5.zip OR http://www.sectorfiles.com/ti-file-dump/VasudanAdmiral/modv32b5.zip for those who don't haveth it already)
2) and then paste the exe in this: http://www.geocities.com/vasudanad/modviw32.zip OR http://www.sectorfiles.com/ti-file-dump/VasudanAdmiral/modviw32.zip
version o'er the one in the DMTOOLS\MODVIW32 folder
it's exactly the same as the regular 05, except it has most of the limits i could find bumped really high. :)
edit: added SG links

page not found...

um... why not just use PCS
-
I tend to use both, PCS is brilliant for converting etc, I use Aurora when I can for pathing, but HT&L stuff needs to be done in PCS, but I'm just used to placing guns in Modelview ;)
Also, I often use JPG's and DDS for textures, so I like the Wireframe mode of Modelview, it's good for precision placing of firepoints.
-
You know the latest version of PCS shows you the gun/missile hardpoint locations
PCS should be made to look for JPGs.. im not sure if OpenIL supports DDS but if it did it could look for those too
-
Yes, I've noticed the Gunpoints, I just do Modelview out of habit, and PCS is the ONLY app out there that can path HT&L models. Oddly enough, I used to place Thruster glows by using modelview to give me the co-ordinates and then keying them into PCS ;)
It'd be great if PCS did read JPG, I'me certain that would make a lot of peoples lives easier :)
-
Modelview is great for print screening individual models.
-
hmm, the links worked for me, so probs just geocities. i'll upload em to the SG server actually. :)
PCS is more than perfect for conversion, auto gen and pretty much all bug fixing, but i've found that with some models, it won't display certain textures here and there, for no apparent reason. the HTL fenris centre texture being one example.
it also tends to render big/complex/both models considerably slower than modview does.
however, don't get me wrong. i love PCS for it's accuracy, smoothing, perspective view (the way FS should appear ingame actually :p ) and pofing abilities, and use it a heck of a lot. :D
it's more the photoshop app compared to the picture viewer app in a sense ;)
-
I think Modelview's interface is easier, and it seems to be a lot faster :) Although PCS combines POF2COB, COB2POF and Modelview all into one app, and it allows you to add engine points and thruster glows (something Modelview does not allow you to do, iirc).
-
the latest one can move and size existing ones IIRC, but not much else.
-
Vasudan: yes it's not really an optimized renderer - it just parses the BSP trees for the polygons instead of generating raster lists
-
Thankee. :)
I didn't use PCS because last I knew, the renderer didn't work properly, gunpoints weren't coded, and I didn't think it supported high-poly ships.

WMCoolmon: since when do i program hard limits into my programs (except for the 4Meg BSP data size per sobj..)
