New computar!
Dell Dimension 4600C
P4 3.0C Ghz w/800Mhz FSB
2 GB 400Mhz DDR SDRAM
250 GB SATA HD
64 MB GeForce 4 MX 440 w/8x AGP (I think)
Windows XP Pro
-
get new videocard.. a 64 mb one won't last you too long
otherwise, a good system.
-
you bought a dell..... doh
worse you bought an intel processor
-
spec wise, that comp could kill my new comp (except graphics)
but... it's a dell... :doubt:

Whats wrong with Intel? :wtf:
-
they suck,
you know I seem to recal Kaz not likeing AMD at one time
-
yes, i used to be an intel-whore, until they started to suck - and about the same time AMD got their act togeather
the P4's a massive POS from the archetecture on up
-
Hmm...
I have no preference really. I've been using this P4 for about a year and a half.. no trouble at all with it yet..
-
I don't care either way. As long as it works, and works well :D
-
processor, well, i prefer AMD, but ok.
but a Dell?
-
If you wanted that system to last you should have bought a 64bit processor... and a better vidcard... ouch...
-
It's quite hard to say "P4 architecture sucks", because there are just so many architectures. Intel are cleaning up their act now, IMHO. I think they realised that people were beginning to become more educated than just listening to Mhz figures.
AMD is still one hell of a lot cheaper though. Well, if you build your own anyway - I've actually seen some ready-to-run suppliers pricing their AMD boxes higher than their Intel boxes, which even given supply/demand market forces is just plain wrong.
-
The only advantage I see in Intels over AMDs is the AMD overheating problem - but even that can be solved with a good TT or Zalman cooler.
-
There is no "overheating" problem
-
I'd like to break the mold of doom and gloom (except for what UT said, he's got it right on IMHO) and say congrats and enjoy.

An 'overheating' problem implies something's wrong. While it is true that AMD processors generally run hotter than Intels, that's because it's the way they work. They're supposed to, they can take it. There's nothing wrong, just the numbers shift up a bit.
-
They overheat if for some reason the fan shuts off, or someone is stupid enough to take the heat sink off.... Which just about ANY processor will..
I cooked a can of soup on my old 486 once....
-
What's wrong with Dell? I just got a new Dell...

Totally agreed, man. :) And quite significantly because that rig could smack my PC silly with its hands tied behind its proverbial back. :D
