Title: Dark Horizons- Lore
Post by: Inquisitor on April 07, 2004, 06:31:40 pm
First off, apologies for the spam nature and the IM's I sent everyone.

Second, as most of you know, I have been working part time for the last year or so on a commercial game project, Dark Horizons- Lore.

http://www.garagegames.com/lore

It's $24.95, it's alot of fun, and, well, it's on sale now :)

I am gonna go have a beer now :)

No, it's an MMO game, using Torque, where you ONLY pilot mechs. In fact, it's nothing LIKE Halo :D

or at least it doesn't look like it :D

Not QUITE an MMO (well, not like EQ or Planetside) no subscriptions. But there is some persistence to the players data.

A little more than Squad Wars was, I'd say. Something similar to Multi Player Battle Tech that EA cancelled. We're all mech fiends, so, we wanted a mech game :)

And we will get paid for this, if people buy it ;)

I wasn't refering to the game, I was refering to the general look of the graphics and models.

So you're involved with this? Cool.

Personally though, I'm looking forward to SS:2845 when it comes to giant robot/mech games.

Download the demo, if you hate it, well, that's cool too, but try it, and go into it with an open mind :)

Looks nice

Will it be available at CompUSA?

So I gave it a try, Inqui. Interestingly, I had no idea when I was getting hit. There wasn't damage taking sound played. The graphics were reasonably smooth and fast in OpenGL, though the Direct3d was wonky as hell. The instructor's voice was... interesting. He must have been UTTERLY bored reading the script. ;)

All in all, not bad. I need to configure my stick and throttle before I decide if I like the game or not though.

I can't see the website, says something about a lot of traffic.

Yeah, Murphy's law. Release the game, publisher's site goes down from the traffic :)

Check back soon :)

mik: it's not perfect, certainly, but, we had fun making it, and peopel seem to enjoy it. The demo goes I think 7 days, so, get a feel for it :)

Unless you want to help a local boy make good, then you can just buy it :) (Hey, I am not proud ;)).

Ditto, looks like I'm getting the same traffic message. Pity, I've been really looking forward to seeing this come to completion. Mega kudos, Inq.:yes:

If I like it at the end of the trial, I will buy it. :) I've been looking for a cheap mech piloting game.

The screenshots look cool.  But is it only a multiplayer game? I don't have a phone at home :(

It is not multiplayer only, J3Vr6 (man, can we get an easier to type name on you? like JPee6 or something? ;)). There's (i think) three single player missions in the demo.

6 missions, but, the AI is not the brightest feature in the game. It's principally multiplayer (for now).

*heh* I wasn't counting the training missions, Inqui.

Hey, is there any way to get more damage feedback? I'm having trouble playing the game because I really can't tell if I'm getting hit (and man do those turrets pack a punch against a light mech)

Damage feedback is something we know is lacking. There's going to be some content upgrades and we're seriously considering that for future point releases.

Whenever I look at his nick, I think "Jevrix". I think I'll call him "Jev" from now on. ;)

And yay, GarageGames is back up! *downloads demo*

If you have a spare 25 bucks, toss it at them :)
