Title: Shield test, need opinions
Post by: Tiara on April 08, 2004, 09:36:43 am
I'm just trying to get them shield effects right. I need suggestions on how to improve and what you think of it.

Remeber, not the ships etc, just the shield effect. The rest is just a random 5 minute job :p

To rounded.. and needs to fade out more around the edges - but other than that it's very good

The effect is too dense.

It needs to be more like shining a light into a jar full of clouds and less like spray-painting an invisible rock.

See, now that one is too gaseous. It needs more white in it and to be a little rougher.

I think the shield hit seems too close to the ship, Tiara, but that could be the angle.

I think you are talking 'bout Thorns one, right? ;p Mine isn't that great :p

Anywayz, mine is more a localized hit. And everytime I see a localized hit from a beam weapon in ST it is dense (though it fades quickly). Remeber, my shield effect is during direct contact with the Cardassian beam itself.

Ow, and it's completely PSP made :p

Thorn's shield is a bit too glassy for my taste. And it seems like it's being hit by either a very low yield but large beam or passing through a dense atmosphere or something.

You should try making it like electric bolts. Electric bolts rule.
Electric bolts for president!

I actually like both quite a lot. They're both appropriate in different places, IMHO.

Sorry Tiara :blah:
Mine actually looks quite a bit different if you have a beam hitting it, with a lens flare at the impact point. It looks like the energy from the beam is dissapating along the shield.

Oooo, purdy Athalla. :)

Anyway, Tiara, the angle kinda screws it up, imho :) Needs some work, try making it less solid ;)

Yeah, I thought it looked either like the effect when ships were entering/exiting subspace or from StarCraft with the Protoss.
