Title: Antares' Super Fun Happy Thread!
Post by: Antares on April 09, 2004, 06:26:12 pm
:D

It seems to me as if there's been a whole slew of progress on the modding front during the last few weeks, with lots of little improvements to make FreeSpace pretty.  I won't be able to use any of this stuff myself until I get home for the summer, so here's a short list of some recent enhancements, so other folks can have a quick reference guide to new goodies--and so I won't forget where they are when I get to use my new computer a month from now.

The High-Poly Fenris: here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,22178.0.html).

Turambar's Afterburner Trails: here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,22705.0.html).

That'd a nicely pixelated nebula you got there, Thunder. where'd you get it from, tachyon: the fringe? :D

Thats not a nebula, thats a stupidly close-up shot of the maxim impact effect. Here's an extract of the animation - it moves a hell of a lot faster and is rarely seen so close in game ;)

Hmmmmmm... All things considered. that works surprisingly well as a nebula then ;)

Most of that is already  in the wiki, but it might be a good idea to create a "list of SCP enhancements" page, a collection of links directly to files and to these threads. link that page from the installing guide, media VP and general SCP pages.

Singh: I see you rotated that planet.

and please, upload some screenies to the site, i'll PM you something.

also, i like all these screenies. Perhaps someone could make a little screenie page in the wiki, with the URL's underneath the images, for when we need to pimp stuff.

Hey Kal, use my Glowpointed Arcadia (http://www.duke.edu/~cek6/install01.zip).  And maybe get it into the media VP?

And the smaller planet is the one behind the Hades, just barely visable because its bright spot points in the opposite direction from the big rock's and lines up almost perfectly with the other planet's edge.

ah yes, now i see it.

And you might want to talk to WMCoolmon about that thing. I really should make the SCP enhancement page instead of just listing a few high poly models in the guide.......

The glowpointed arcadia didn't really look good. Probably because fading in/out glowpoints never was implemented.

You have specular, but it's killed off by all that diffuse+ambient light. Add "-spec" and "-ambient_factor 75" to your command line.

click the edit button, fill in a random username and password. the password line can be left empty, but the username has to be a WikiWord, with at least two caps, neither at the end. for example StratComm, KasPerl, AntAres, SirAntares.  Use headers as used in the rest of the file. !! for new sections, !!! for the MODs themselves. Always list author and direct download location. Mirror to somewhere reliable if it's hosted on angelfire or something, but ask permission from author first.

Because i havent figured out .ani's yet :)

As soon as i do (and as soon as im done fixing my beams to work with lightspeed's new stuff and making high res textures for EVERY ship) There will be new explosions for the People!! (unless, of course, someone else gets there first)

It doesn't look any worse though, and it adds a little bit more detail and makes use of a feature that is otherwise not used outside of TBP.  Some pulse to the glows would be nice, yes, but I disagree that they look bad as-is.

Can you provide the link for the launcher and SCP build thingies, because, my computer is broken and I'm getting it fixed on Tuesday, and I'll need the links to all the stuff I need to get the SCP running... so, I'll download Lightspeed's totally *****en nebulas that make me wet my pants because they are so beautiful, almost as much as my girlfriend, and I'll also get those beam upgrades. Beautiful...

Actually, I've been doing ****load of work trying to get better explosions. I have acces to some Artbeats stock explosions (through my school) and I've already converted some to ani format. They'd look very good exept I had to strech them in order to get them working in FS2. And after that they look really, really bad. FS2 is too picky! :hopping:

Hmm... that gives me a idea though. Gotta try something :D

As a matter of fact, yes. ;)

Specs:

AMD Athlon XP 3000+
1Gb DDR400
2x 120Gb Samsung SATA HDD in a RAID 0 array
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128Mb

That's the basics; things like CD/DVD drives will be cannabalised from my current computer. All in all, including a new case, it'll cost around $1100 US.

I'lll hopefully be getting it in about a month. :)

512 Mb DDR133, P4 2.2 Ghz on the most inflexible stupid, completely un-overclockable motherboard in the world, but i usually get around 60 fps, probably on account of my overclocked Geforce FX 5600 (overclocked to about an Ultra).

Yeah, the Radeon 9700 Pro is definitely the sweet spot of card these days. At approx. $210 USD, with performance that's nearly the fastest out there.... ;7

Ok, I'll admit it - it's all Ground Control 2's fault! Have you guys SEEN those screenshots?!? :eek2:

You gotta get past the guard crocs before you can be an official burglar, and then you have to get out past them again whilst carrying heavy items.

You dont need guns in Australia ;)

Honestly, no one with 250+ posts on this board should not know how to access information contained in these forums, not know about the Wiki, and not know posting etiquette.  And yeah, I'd have gone with 5th or 6th.

Actually I've only asked where the latest stuff was once, and that was my first time here. I just got told to go to "Latest Versions of Everything" thread, and never needed the guide. Now that we have a new, latest of everything, thread, might as well ask...

Certain types of guns are legal - semi and fully automatics are banned, and there's a lot of red tape for getting other stuff handguns. Rifles and the like are fairly easy to obtain though, for farmers and roo shooters and stuff.

That would be the result of reducing it for no reason at all, and don't think I wont hesitate to report it. I only let Kalifreth reduce my post count.

no one did it soooo...
Welcome to the HLPBB, Manic
Exits are to the sides and rear, you will find a personal flamethrower under your seat, but we're out of napalm so you'll have to bludgeon people with them. Stay away from the air vents they're... dangerous, but if you happen to be crawling around in them and find something black & red & spiky, it's just Carl. Give him your lunch and back away slowly and he should leave you alone. In the event of a serious war/battle/etc. there are plasma rifles in the lockers up front. However these can only be opened by [V], God, an Admin, or a hyper-intelligent shade of the colour blue. Do not attempt to enter the control room as it is guarded by subspatial claymore mines. Thank you and enjoy your stay.

*pant pant* I think that's it... whatever

[color=66ff00]Tin Can stop digging a hole for yourself.

Everybody else concerned; stop hassling the guy with the shovel. If he bugs you that much remember there's a fairly nifty ignore feature in your profile settings.

Stop hijacking my thread!

Added links to DaBrain's "improvement pack", Stunaep's new suns, and the "new subspace model" thread.  Also linked to Turambar's new thrusters, even though no download is yet available.

A note to modders: quit posting your stuff in the SCP forum, it doesn't go there. :D   That's why we have a modding forum.

Actually now that you said something, I'm going to tell you that I'm busy getting Modeling done for those Half Life 2 Freespace 2 Models for the FPS me and POSSIBLY other people are looking forward to making... I'll make a Terran Soldier, a Vasudan Soldier, and a Shivan, along with two weapons. That way I can have some credibility. Cheers!

However I did sprinkle the thread with happy! ;7

For crying out loud will you all leave eachother alone? I understand the desire to get the last word, I really do. But this is childish. Stick to the topic or take your own personal problems to email or whatever - but just leave it alone please.

Right, that out of the way - Singh those are very impressive shots - I love the lighting on those ships! Truly the standard of the FS2 code has come a long way
