Bob Dylan is indeed quite a good artist. Knocking on Heavens Door is rather nice, but it has been beaten, IMO.
-
Yeah, it's... nice. But not the best by a long shot.
-
No, not the best. For best I nominate:
Lemon Jelly - The Staunton Lick
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
I'll think of others later...
-
Nope it's not best song

A man with taste. ;)
But it's tied for the lead with Stairway to Heaven, Paint it Black and Wish You Were Here.

Eagles - Hotel California

[color=66ff00]I would choose Gillian Welch - Revelator. Right click and 'save as'. (www.gillianwelch.com/video/GW-Revelator_300.wmv) (10.7Mb WMV format)
Bob Dylan does pwn though.

Pull in another vote for the Eagles. Dire Straits ("Sultans of Swing") rates pretty highly, also. :)

Brothers in Arms rules too.

Led zeppelin had the best live performances. Ever.
even more so than GnR
-
There are too many good songs to have 1 as the best..........
-
I only heard this music by Guns n' Roses so...
It is good... just not the best :nervous:

Yeah, that's another good number of theirs. Sultans of Swing has better guitar, though. :D
-
errr. Teen Spirit? Yeah :D:D
Hotel Califronia is always good. Damn, thats a great song.
-
Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven
Pink FLoyd - Run Like Hell
Any version of All Along the Watchtower... the Hendrix version being my fav...

Stairway to Heaven.

My top 5:
Led Zeppelin - Stairway to heaven (duh)
Metallica - Fade to Black (which sounds great when you and your friends are playing it)
Iron Maiden - Hallowed be thy name
Jimi Hendrix - All along the watchtower
Nirvana - Smells like Teen Spirit (i don't care for the song, but i realize its influence)
-
Not suer if it's the top, but it's certainly up there. I also like Queen's '39 and Kansas' The Pinnacle and Carry on My Wayward Son.
-
*plays american pop icon worshiper*
no, kryptonyite is teh best
-
Apparently, most people consider Imagine to be the greatest song of all time. Weird.
But yeah, too many awesome songs to pick just one, especially since I've been gaining a new appreciation for early jazz (ie 30s, 40s) and pub rock, which is always good.
-
"Fly Me to the Moon" by Frank Sinatra was pretty nice. (still looking for the full song of that)
But then I prefer instrumental as opposed to actual songs, so I have no favourite out there ;)
(and no, I have actually not heard of the song in question here)
-
Mr Scruff's Blackpool Roll
-
Uriah Heep's July Morning is quite good as well. I could hear the guitar improv. a thousand times

Beattles - Let it be
:nervous:

I didn't mean THE best, I meant most widely accepted as kicking some serious ass.
Like how some 12 year old would say Nsync were the best, but some old git would say the Eagles were the best. But both would agree that KOHD kicks ass.

Thank you, I try. :drevil:

[color=66ff00]Does anyone else find it utterly terrifying that every time a new generic pop tune comes out that there are people who are convinced that it's the best thing they've ever heard.
Easily influenced or am I missing something?

The more an average person listens to a music the more they are bored by it. So new musics are always the best... until the next one is released.

LOL Oddly enough, I was having a discussion about this the other day. We were talking about how Nightclubs have killed music. Back in the sixties/seventies, just as many, if not more drugs were being taken, but because nightclubs were different things then, usually with a live band all most people could do whilst high was sit around, play guitar and write meaningful lyrics about the meaning of life and death etc, so some really deep, meaningful tracks came out around then (including KOHD). However, the invention of the Nightclub, basically gave people the opportunity to dance all their creative energy off, and the music matches that, it merely supplies a beat for people to move their feet to, the content is no longer relevant for most pop music, as long as it goes at 120bpm and is in A minor scale so it can be mixed easily.
Also, the creation of the 'Disco' in the seventies meant that all these live bands that were being created to play in Pubs, Bars etc were no longer needed.
