Whilest getting up to speed on what is all new and great about fs2_open, I did some reading here 'bout glowmaps...
soooo...if all these are supposed to do is to accentuate parts that need to appear glowy...why are there so many glowmaps in the new vp that are either completely black or have just one or two very small, single spots on it??? To me that's kinda like having glowmaps just because you can without them contributing anything worthwile (not talking about the ones that actually have something there to glow, just the ones that are 99-100% black...) I mean, that single glowing pixel isn't going to make an astonishing amount of difference, so why waste memory/speed on it?

well, sometimes it is just because there sin't anything to light up, sometimes because a tex is tiled, and sometimes somebody just ****ed up.

Well, given the darkness FSO, a single glowing speck is far better for visual tagetting than the black sillouhettes we'd get without the glowmapping.
I'm also going to take the opportunity to complain about the lack of glowmaps past lod0 in the VP I have. If this has been fixed in later media vp's, ignore me. If it hasn't, play a mission with the Hippocrates.
