Some of you may remember hearing about a Freespace Mod for Homeworld 2. There was indeed one in development...
...but the project leader has ceased working on it.
I, as well as several others, cannot express enough the horror of this, so i beg of all, follow this link to their forum:

post, partition, offer help, do something to stop this beuatiful mod (trust me, just go to the website) from dying out.

A thing to mention is that Homeworld 2 requires the models to be made (or converted) in Maya. You can get the Personal Learning Edition of Maya 5 from [here] (http://www.alias.com/eng/products-services/maya/maya_ple/index.shtml) Maya requires at least 512 MB of ram and that the system runs on Windows 2000 Pro or XP Pro.

Yay for Maya...a 3D program that I can understand. Does the Personal Learning Edition work at all with Homeworld 2?

I hope that the owner doesn't mind me linking to the pics, I just thought I'de be nice if people could see some progress made on the mod right here in the thread.
Err, looks interesting. I remember the FS2 mod for Homeworld1, its was very comprehensive and just outright cool. HW2 seems to offer many more possibilities than the original, so I hope this gets picked up again.
The models/textures look good, though if you don't me me saying so; they could be a bit better. Anyways, a HW style game with in the Freespace universe would be, well, ****ing amazing. Especially if HW2 allows (does it? I don't keep up to date) for full-fleged singlelayer missions to be made. I mean like story, cutscenes and all.
Looks good so far, and hopefully the mod will get picked up again.

but without an alpha 1 around, to make sure your plans work out even if you screw up, it will be a very hard job to win :p

IceFire: Maya PLE is supposedly exactly the same as Maya Complete. The only difference is when you render something in PLE the program will stick the Alias logo watermark on the image.

The file exporter doesn't work with PLE. The "tools" as released by Relic are laughable when compared to what the community was promised.

Holy hell this MOD kicks ass! One more reason to buy Homeworld 2! (just as soon as the guys get my computer fixed. Sent in today, should be done by 3:40 or later...)

Is there a shinemap posibility in this MOD? I look back at the old FS2 ships without shinemaps and realized how bland it seems now... without glows and shiny stuff all over it, making its truely something to see... so, will it be possible to add shinemaps? Also, are the sizes of the ships up to par? Like, will a Cain cruiser be fairly small in size, only a little more then four times the size of the Aries?

I dont know about the shine maps but the sizes where fine. You can make them as big or small as you want. The problem is getting the ships into a HW2 format.

True, and at that it might result in some minor problems... like that picture with the Manticore seems a tad fuzzy. It also makes me think though: HW wont be able to support ALL the fighters from Freespace 2 will it? I mean like, from the Myrmidon to the Eurynes, will it? But I couldnt think of any game better to MOD then HW2 for Freespace Universe: it matches it in almost every way.

Should be able to. You just make each type of fighter particularly better against another type of enemy (i.e Myrmidons are okayish against anything, but the Erinyes is good at attacking larger targets, though it isnt as effective as a Medusa.
In fact, i had this idea of an advanced research tree that's split into ages (as seen on some RTS games). Each age is a different time period (i.e. Great War era, Capella Incident era, Inferno era) and which age your in dicates what ships, weapons and technology is at your disposal. When you've researched everything in one age, you are given one more item, that once resurched, unlocks the next age. As you research like this, your fleet evolves from pathetic FS1 fenris crusiers right up to the Icanus :drevil:.

HW2 could support it all no problem. Except correctly working sheilds... At least I dont know how to put them in.

What do you mean? I did post a thread on the Inferno page became i thought Woomeister and co might be interested in it (i head him mentioning it before) if this is wrong, i apologise. Feel free to let them know and transfer the info on that thread to here.

I think I'll help make this MOD... just need those modding tools. Someone said earlier it was fairly simple to learn... I'll see what I can help with. Too bad he said he wasnt working on it anymore. It looked so beautiful. Those guys at the UCS better have my computer ready when I get there... :mad:

I sent an E-Mail to him a few days ago stating that i loved his MOD, and that i would love to adopt it to continue it. But i haven't had any reply. has anyone heard from him recently?
