Title: The last stop
Post by: Splinter on April 14, 2004, 05:47:14 am
well my dad is heading to the US in a bit and wants to pick me a up a digi camera for my 18th my part is to do the research and picka  camera right around $300 USD

I had gone through a bunch and had narrowed it down to a casio a panasonic a fuji a sony and a kodak

after going through each one I decided to my suprise to go with the kodak DX6440 It had gotten the best reviews of the ones i was looking at and seemed to be just what i wanted. my brother told me to go on DPreview and look at it furthur and saw the same thing http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/read_opinions.asp?prodkey=kodak_dx6440

I have basically set my "sights" if you will on that camera however this is my last stop... to ask the good people out there for thier wise opinions. :nervous:

have at it

So he shouldn't get it just cuz you you don't like them?  Lol... how about telling us what you don't like about the interface devices and why you don't like their features.

from what i'm told they have problems with hispeed capture, their docking stantions.... blerg - when I was working Sears electronics back in the day i'd always steer people away from kodak - but it's been two years so i don't have all the reasons on the tips of my fingers anymore

holy jesus this thing's expensive, you'd be better off with the sony cameras, the memory sticks, etc are far easier to work with, no docking stations for them, just a simple cable..

hell, my sony DSC-P52 cost $550 AUD /with/ camera bag.

most of the price of the kodak prolly is involved with the docking stations, plus with the sony models the memory sticks are interchangeable.. so you can take photos to your heart's content.

EDIT: i've checked the specs, and the kodak doesn't seem to have any kind of removable memory card standard, it can be expanded.

Here's the Specs (http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=1085&pq-locale=en_AU)

actually in the reviews it has about a 2-3 second in between pictures unless you set it to burst mode which can take numerous pictures in jsut a second. the dockingstations is a plus on all the reviews.

its $305 USD i dunno where you get tha price form but it sucks.
SD is the most commonly used flash memmory around its is very easy to replace and use. the docking station is one of the best things but you can use jsut the simple cable if you wish. the removable mmeroy card standard is SD & MME you can buy a 256mb for as little as $50

all the people who bought this camera were very suprised... namley because it was a kodak no one expects much from them but thats the kicker read around the web this is no kodak of 2 years ago :D

I noticed most people wanted to buy cams with the largest res possible, but always ended up using a lower one to be able to take more shots... A bit of a waste, considering the cost difference :p

I'd get one that uses Compact Flash or one of the other more widely used storage media, Sony charges an arm and a leg for their mem sticks and you can't just walk into Wal-Mart while you're over here and buy one.

LOL I've got a beaten up old Fujifilm one ;) It takes pretty good pictures really, but it's pretty old and the menu buttons don't work any more, but hey, it still takes piccies, and I can't afford a new one yet :)

I was just advising against Sony and their proprietary memory format.
